Listening to a discussion about Torres and Carroll yesterday and how they were definately players who needed the arm round the shoulder type of management. Freddy never got that with Mick McCarthy one of the most abrasive men in football. When he enters the pitch next friday and to a lesser degree tomorrow he will have the crowd singing his name. Freddy thrives on confidence and nowhere will he be made to feel more welcome then at Roots Hall. I would imagine this was alot to do with Gary Lockett and well done to him and to Ron Marton and Sturrock for going with it as well. Can we just remind the other players that ball played to feet is the way to play Freddy or a ball over the top for him to run on to (just hope he still can) Or even put it into the corner and watch him swerve one in from there. With Hall Sawyer and Martin in the squad he should have enough playmakers and I for one cannot wait to see him just gutted I cant go tomorrow but 3 of the family will be there cheering the team on buzzing now just buzzing:smile::smile::smile:

FOR those saying we need to play it to Freddy's feet and all that! Remember that season with Goater those flick ons from long balls to him? That goal at Swansea away from a long ball and a Goater flick on! So many to mention!
He will feed off any little scrap dangled in front of him (insert a boring fat joke here)!

Freddy was also a great player to leave at the half way line waiting for a clearance when defending corners etc, would often leave defenders for dead from that situation. My only worry is that Luggy likes to have 11 back in the box!!

For those that can remember the atmosphere at Euro96

he's coming home, he's coming come
he's coming, Freddy's coming home

he's coming home, he's coming come
he's coming, Freddy's coming home

i think Benyon has looked really sharp in the last 3 games and IMHO does not deserve to be dropped and i think would be a great partner for Freddy :Worthy:. My team to play v Brizzle would be :

Belford

Clohessy Phillips Barker Hills

Hall Grant Timlin Martin

Eastwood
Benyon

I think that's a cracking team - but drop Barker for Prosser. And Bill on the bench to come on with 20 to go,

I take your point but that's not entirely true.

There's not much, but from the same thread:

Point is, he never got going and he's clearly been unhappy where he is. No one is questioning his talent, only his fitness and commitment. All that remains to be seen then is whether the affection he enjoys at Southend will be enough to get him fired up again. No question, Southend United is Freddy's spiritual home.

And Plasma in Wickford High Street (One of Freddy's old haunts) is close by!

I know im going to get slated for this, but I think Harris would be a great partner for Freddy. I think he will create so much room for him with his movement (which goes unnoticed by lots) and we all know what Freddy can do with a bit of space.

failing that, bring Bil on with 20 left.

Its great to have mosh and freddy back, they are both quality players. But we cant sit back and expect them to do it all alone, as we need to give them the right type of ammo to do the job for us.
Its vitally important that all 11 players put in a honest shift and im sure we can still make an auto slot.

It does not matter where you play him he will not get the service simple
i wish people would see that it's just Martin papering over the cracks

What signing an experience striker, is papering over the cracks? Or is it because we needed one?
Papering over the cracks is the worst saying ever!

'Papering over the cracks' isn't too wide of the mark if we can't make the chances. You could put Messi up front but if you can't get the ball to him....! The recent alarming statistic of 'shots on target' makes you wonder if the away form is a freak and the real picture is the lack of creativity. It will take a game or two to re-jig the lineup and formation to blend in the new players, including Dailly.
