Cycling update

Greetings from the German naval port of Wilhelmshaven!

I have cycled nearly 700kms in nine days, only another 5,300 to go!

So far I have camped in Zandvoort, been put up by a family in Den Helder called the Bethlehems, sunned myself on the island of Texel and put my tent up in the garden of some hardcore Ajax fans I met on the road!

Germany nowhere near as nice as Holland, gets an Echo rating of Gordon Connelly/Neil Campbell so far! Or should that be Graeme Jones?

But staying with a nice family at the moment who have just served me up corned beef hash, sliced gherkins and fried eggs! Yummy!

Heading for Werder Bremen territory tomorrow!

Keeping fingers crossed for Blues!

Keep those donations coming at: www.justgiving.com/northseacycle

Harsh - surely Germany isn't that bad!

:minger:

Keep the posts coming, Bernie - we will be monitoring progress. You've had some interesting donations so far - I'm slightly perturbed by your donation from someone called Paulo Wanchope...

"I've always wanted to see you in lycra and a helmet."

 :D

Best of luck, Bern!

North Sea Cycle update

Time for another quick update!

Am currently in Asa, Sweden, and just over a third of the way through. Raised nearly £2,600 so far!

Spent last night camping out rough in the Swedish wilderness, you're allowed too hear as part of their big nature policy, and sat watching wild deer wander past all night! Unbelievable!

Who needs Ray Mears or Bear Grylls!

Denmark was great, the people were so kind, loads of freebies, beers, accomodation and grub.

They even do an alcoholic version of Fishermen's Friend which is a head blower!

The very top of Denmark, Skagen, was awesome. You can put your feet in two seas at the same time while the seals watch you bobbing about in the water from about 100 metres away.

So much more has been going on and a lot more to come!

Gutted about Blues, hope it doesn't take us another 10 years of cack to get back. Although, we've got a better team than last time we went down!

Off to Gothenburg tomorrow! I was hoping they might be at home, but they don't start until next week.

Watched a lot of Bronby games on TV and there is a Danish side called Randers, who have Essex written on the back of their shirts!

Also got to train with a team called Hadsund! They were the town team, probably Boro Comb Div 2 level. But they had their own ground, 10 floodlit grass pitches, a bar, changing rooms, all with their flag outside and club badge on the wall. They gave me a shirt and have been going since 1926!

They want to come over and play a few of our teams! We even got to play with the girls, if you know what I mean, and let me tell you the myths are true they are all at least 9/10.

This is the place to come for wives boys!

Keep pledging your money on my site please at www.justgiving.com/northseacycle

The end.........sort of!

Hi chaps and chapesses!

Sorry, it's long overdue, but I've only just got linked up to the internet at home!

As you will probably know, I had to bail out slightly earlier than hoped for, but I still managed to pedal 3,500km and fell just short of Kristiansand, Norway.

Obviously disappointed, but pleased to have covered five countries using my body alone, and with the bonus of raising £3,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Thankyou so much to everybody who supported me and kept in touch as it made a huge difference.

I'm penning the book now and hope to pick up the film rights soo, with Brad Pitt playing me!

But seriously, the book is underway and as I explained before it is a royalty based agreement. I am going to donate a percentate of the profits to Cancer Research UK too, so I hope you will buy the thing when it comes out.

Also, my publisher has given me a second book to complete the English, Scottish and Shetland route next summer, so I will be begging you all for more money for Cancer Research UK again. Better take out those second mortgages!

Thanks again everyone! And keep in touch at berniebike@hotmail.co.uk

P.S. Rob Montier, I was abducted by party loving aliens, but you'll have to read the book to find out where they placed the probes. Regards to Dave x
