Heartbreaking news -

Rayleigh boy

Director⭐
I always enjoy the memory threads on here and was enjoying the "Why I support Southend" contributions when I saw the news about the new stadium.

So the day will come where the place of focus all these memories, Roots Hall,
will be rubble and a supermarket.

I know its the right thing and all that for the future of the club but I doubt whether I am alone in dreading the day that we leave our spiritual home...

Somehow, for me, it feels like bad news - the final end of Roots Hall.

No mate you're not alone...I will miss the Hall too.
All those memories (and Im not as old as most on here), but it is time to move on.

agreed, 21 years watching us at the Hall but it has great memories and not so great. It will be sad to see the place go but as Callan said, it's time to move on.

we know we can't go on any further at roots hall, the future now looks very bright . we can look back at very fond memories at roots hall.

Yeah, fond memories no doubt. Like your first girlfriend you can't help but smile about...

Is there a post where you dont mention a chick or two.....:winking:

The place has its memories and alot of history attached, but the club have to move on if its to survive else thats all we will be left with....just memories.

You are absolutely right, the Hall has a million memories and it will be a sad day when the club leave it but we are going on to much bigger and better times now hopefully now FF has been approved but the old place will be missed for sure.

To be honest, I can't wait to set foot in the new stadium for the first time. The past is the past. Roots Hall has served it's time. Let's look forward to the potential that Fossetts Farm can bring to the Shrimpers.

I have some wonderful memories of RH ...and will post a long piece later you lucky people..

Well we have a good couple of season left yet, hopefully by the time we leave the shed that is Roots Hall we will be living it up in the Championship!

Roots Hall will always have a place in my heart after 21 years of watching games there. The last game there will be a truly sad day and one Im sure will bring a tear to many an eye that has watched football there.

Even during the bad times of Little and Martin the ground was a place I could meet up with my mates and have a couple of hours talking rubbish.

However, we all know what needs to happen for this club to move on. Not only that, but issues at Roots hall like accoustics, and restricted views mean I will be looking forward to the opening of the new stadium.

Wouldn't go that far, It makes me eyes go red and want to become a mass murderer when I think about my first. LOL!

I will miss the hall, will miss my seat and hopefully they will auction off some bits cause I would love to keep my seat!!

Just really hard decision where to sit at the new one?? Nothing will compare to the South Upper :(

:dim:

With construction will not probably starting for a wile for a wile......when do you think that the last game at the Hall will be? Last game of 09/10…..10/11season?

Someone will be living on/shopping on the spot that Freddy scored that free-kick against Man U, Wayne Gray won us the League One Championship. Where Derrick Parker should have scored past Ray Clemence, where Brett Angell netted against Ouest Jambon. Where Mervyn Cawston made save after save. From the penalty spots that Alan Moody never missed from. Where Syd Broomfield spent countless hours nurturing and building the place. Where Stanley played. Where heroes, anti-heroes, villains, and comrades paraded their talents for over 50 years.

Indeed it will be a sad day when we leave the home of football and i'm sure there will a tear or two in the eye!

But we still have the memories and they can't be taken away!
