Have you converted anyone

I've converted my Spanish mate Carlos, who comes to as many home games as he can afford, and another friend who lives in Ashford who will attend games if she's in Essex. Most of my mates look out for Southend results, too!

I forgot to mention. On saturday, the fella that sits next to me and my brother brought a friend from work. He's Italian and a Juventus season ticket holder and was over here working for the company the fella works for on an exchange. He loved every minute of the Tranmere game and was jumping up and down like a mad man when we scored.

I took two Italian colleague's to last seasons LDV game against Swindon.

Unfortunately they were escorted from the ground after setting fire to a moped and trying to throw it into the away end.

my workmate used to come in the Webb days from the early 90s but had hardly been back since. I kept harping on about how well we were playing last season and in the end he started going again from about Feb onwards.

He even posts on here from time to time now (Jam Man), he's even been to more games then me this season!

Most people who know me associate me with Southend and look out for our results. I don't know whether that's damning of my personality or complimentary of the club's appeal but either way, I'm happy when people send texts congratulating the team!

And for that I shall always hold you in the highest regard dear friend.
The first ten years were (chooses word carefully) HORRENDOUS!!

But these last couple of years....
Now THAT's what I'm talking about!!

For my part, I've converted my dad into a huge fan - and he's been a seaso with me since we were in what's now the Championship. As someone else said, many of my friends now look out for Southend's results and cheer our victories.

Likewise. One of many enjoyable aspects of the Play-Off Final win for me was getting texts from all my non-Southend mates congratulating us on the win.

I've brought many of the wife's Kiwi friends and relatives to games with varying degrees of success in converting them to the ways of The Shrimpers. However I seem to be up against the handicap that whenever I take someone to a game we play crap and lose.

Am making good progress on my little one though - I often get fits of giggles when I sing 'Feed The Goat' to her, however that may have more to do with my terrible voice and funny looking face than any fledgling loyalty to Southend United!

Quite a few people seem to look out for Southend results once they have known me. I often get congratulatory texts from a couple of people, and one friend who is great at comiserations. After our 1st Cardiff trip she rang me with her thoughts, which i thought was brave

Im pleased to have fixed things in peoples brain, after all they are the better for it

I notice that a lot of people include thier wives/girlfriends as converts, which is all very commendable, but I should warn you that once the nagging and whingeing starts in earnest, going to football may be your only release from it all.

I once made the mistake of encouraging my girlfriend to come to football with me, she ended up loving it, but in the end it felt like there was no escape.

Thankfully my wife has always hated football. In fact she hates it more with each passing day and I'm all the happier for it.

Does your girlfriend know you are married?

i haven't converted anyone but have been converted.

For about 2 years from the age of about 11 my mate took me to leyton orient:( i 'm sorry

But my grandad found out and he forced me to come to roots hall, which i'm glad he did, a shrimper for the past 6 years and now a season ticket holder, one of the best things he ever did for me

i converted a mate who lived in scotland and he supported rangers (he still does) but now he lives down here ive made him into a shrimper and everytime he comes to a game we win e.g. col u

and his first match was when he came with me to cardiff play-offs and we won

I'd love too, but at work it used to be

'What team do you support?'
'Southend'
'No I meant a real team'
*glares*
'No I meant a Premier$hite team'

The LDV finals and promotion have gone a long way to change this, but there are too many Hamsters/Gooners/ Utd fans to affect any change

I converted Draft Shrimper from his previous "Gooner" status around 6 years ago (now that surely IS an impressive feat!). He came to our 1st game of 2000/1 against Brighton when goals from Carruthers and Lee saw his life change forever - he now has a season ticket and we also go to a fair portion of away trips too

I didn't need to be "converted." When you're Grandad, Uncle and Dad all support Southend its pretty obvious where your allegiances will lie - I've been a Shrimper since 1987
