as long as your not bottom and more than 12pts away from safety you have a chance

An 11-0 win for Southend-United, who are now back on track for promotion (following on from 7-0, 7-0 and 11-0 wins). Next week I play the only team that has scored or taken a point off me this season. However with home advantage I'm confident of securing victory which should leave me on the verge of promotion. However I'm not convinced my team is going to be up to scratch in Div V.

If there are any Div V veterans with a bit of time on their hands, do you reckon my team (54090) will be able to hack it in div 5?
Also what sort of primaries should I be looking for, to survive in division 5. I've a couple of excellent forwards (hopefully soon to be formidable), but my defence and midfield is made up of solids and the odd passable.

HKB, i've been in Div V for a few seasons now. Your strikers should be fine but you need a decent defence to stand a chance. Your players TSI's ratings are a bit low, my average TSI rating for my first team is about 2500

Thanks for all the bids on James Kilgour by Birri & Barmy Army, BTW!

GNH... A 2,500 average for TSI.  I'm impressed!

I was jammy enough to inherit a Div V side, and I seem to get by just fine with an average outfield TSI of 1,450.  I'm not going to trouble the promotion race, but equally I'm nowhere near even the relegation play-off zone... in fact, I'm almost guaranteed to finish 3rd (again) this season in what is a pretty tough league.

It also helps that my keeper's TSI is in the 5,500 - 6,250 range (depending on form) and a 3.5 - 4* performer...

Matt (HKB) - your side looks generally good enough, but you might just want to experiment with different formations (3-4-3, 3-5-2).  In contrast to GNH, I reckon your defence is sound enough; however, your midfield will not win many battles at Level V - I card a regular "poor (high - very high)" for midfield when playing 3-4-3 and a "weak (very low)" when playing 3-5-2; with the added bonus of pulling a solid rating for my central attack when playing 3-4-3.

So, my tip for staying safe in Level V is: experiment with formations and look to boost your midfield ratings.

Indeed, one of my 23yo's has just levelled to Solid along with an 18yo. I'm selling the 23yo to replace him with a 17yo passable at hopefully a reasonable profit. Just waiting for my 2,600 TSI 20yo defender to level to excellent, could be just around the corner and set us up for an assault on promotion from level VI next season. Alternatively I may just keep him and let him get to formidable whilst making a profit on the other 9 who turn excellent midway through next season. Defensive training gives you so many options once it's been going awhile.
