Question Has the "not retained" list been announced yet?

Sorry if this sounds cruel but I hope T+B have a good clear out. This squad was not good enough to seriously threaten for promotion and we want one that can. In fact we could well have faced a worse fate if we had not been rescued by primarily Dorian. But there were no players of sufficient quality waiting in the wings to put the regulars under pressure for their places even when our form was poor.

:stunned::nope:

I disagree totally there.

What he said.

Once again we had a small squad, and alot of injuries. We lacked a little bit of quality in depth, no need for a clearout, just need to add to what we've got.

Re: Dorian as quality as he is, he did not rescue us, merely showed how close we are to being a very good side.

We have had far too much player turnover the last couple of years thanks, what we actually need is a bit of stability and just a bit more quality added to what we already have and I think we will be ok.

What he said.

Forshaw was indeed released last week and already has a couple of offers from Conference clubs.

If Forshaw and Ademano have gone, it's a shame, although I've only seen the latter play and that was only twice. He seemed decent to me, small so can twist and turn easily, seemed to commit people as he ran at them.

I want to see it on the OS though, surely they'll give the players the respect to put it up in the news on there soon?

I don't get Forshaw, everybody else on here and people at reserve games, etc. all rate him very highly, I think he is a great talent and could easily be pushing the likes of Betsy and Scannell for a game if his fitness can improve a bit, which with training with the first team and being involved more he would be, I think he could be a great player, no idea why we are letting him go.

His attitude hasn't been at it's best when it needed to be, which probably aided the decision a little.

I disagree totally there.

Alot of the team were new to Southend this season, injuries and loanees caused a big problem at first and we were down to the bare bones, they still managed to compete ok...

You make it sound as though our back ups/youths/loanees should all the time be good enough for promotion, it doesn't happen like that. The players needed time to gel, and once they had, plus our first teamers came back into play and we got a couple of good loanees, the team showed we can compete for promotion.

The backups also proved they were good enough.

Joyce won every game he played in,

Sankofa was solid right back cover (also ousted Francis for a while)

Herd is a brilliant left back cover.

Scannell got himself into the first team and did well.

The moose started as a back up and even went on loan, he came back and proved himself.

Grant was a back up at first and then competed and was brilliant.

Walker showed glimpses when he played.

Betsy when he got his confidence back, looked a very handy back up player.

I could probably go on, in my eyes the team geled very well this season and the main problem early on was injuries.

I don't think theres any need to release any of the current squad, maybe a few of the youths who haven't developed as needed. And also we have to many strikers, maybe one needs to be cut.

I think we just need our strikers to stay fit next season, get another centre back and a winger and we will be fine.

Don't think by any means a clear out is needed though.

In the end this squad finished 8th and in my book and (hopefully) Tilly's and (I imagine) the wise Ron's that is not good enough. We need a squad which can challenge for a top two place next year - nothing less.

By squad I am referring to our permanent players, not the loanees without whom we could have been going to Dagenham next season.

FWIW, I would keep just 3 of the players you list - I don't like criticising individuals so I won't go into detail, but one of them is Sankofa who I feel offers a lot of promise.

I have heard Nathan MacDonald was good in the youth team but saw him in the reserves and we won't be missing out on much. He is quite small and didn't really command his box, also failed miserably at any awkward ball that came in.

He was a midfielder, so not sure why your comments are aimed towards a goalie!
He broke his leg before christmas and was out on loan at St Albans prior to that.

Was thinking of Nathan McDonald, it's been a long day and was just talking to someone about him! Never saw Luke Thurlbourne play!

Why? How? We simply don't have the resources to have one of the two best squads in this division. Next year our attendances will probably be between 8th and 10th in the table and if we can finish higher than that it will be a good result.

will Miss you Charles..

Indeed, a work with an ex-Wycombe youth teamer who got dumped by them and he's lost all interest in playing the game. Very best of luck and I hope they get picked up by other clubs.

You should point out that one of the positives of being let go is that he can now go out on the p*ss or smoke a spliff whenever he wants without having to worry about messing up his career. The same goes for the likes of Lokando and Ademeno. The wise thing to do for these boys would be to have a lazy summer out on the beers most nights and then see if you can pick up a few 5-a-side sessions with your pals when autumn kicks in.
