Question Has the "not retained" list been announced yet?

SUFC Forever

Manager
Seen on Sky Sports and in the papers loads of clubs "not retained" lists for next season but to my knowledge nothing from us yet?

Has anybody seen/heard anything as to who we might be releasing now the season is over?

i think you find the players all the players are meeting with tilly brush and rm today at the hall before there go on there holidays so dont expect a list before next week

Shame about Forshaw if true. He has always impressed me when I have seen him and has a real winning attitude. Feel he could be another Kightly that will come back and bite us in A**e!!

Shame - always felt he looked good on the couple of occasions he was given a chance but as he is unlikely to play in the 1st team probably better for Charles to go and find a club (probably in the Conference) where he can get regular 1st team football.

Good luck Charles.

Shocking.

I thought he looked a real handful against the Derby XI the other night.

Sorry if this sounds cruel but I hope T+B have a good clear out. This squad was not good enough to seriously threaten for promotion and we want one that can. In fact we could well have faced a worse fate if we had not been rescued by primarily Dorian. But there were no players of sufficient quality waiting in the wings to put the regulars under pressure for their places even when our form was poor.

Trouble is, who we going to replace them with?

I disagree totally there.

Alot of the team were new to Southend this season, injuries and loanees caused a big problem at first and we were down to the bare bones, they still managed to compete ok...

You make it sound as though our back ups/youths/loanees should all the time be good enough for promotion, it doesn't happen like that. The players needed time to gel, and once they had, plus our first teamers came back into play and we got a couple of good loanees, the team showed we can compete for promotion.

The backups also proved they were good enough.

Joyce won every game he played in,

Sankofa was solid right back cover (also ousted Francis for a while)

Herd is a brilliant left back cover.

Scannell got himself into the first team and did well.

The moose started as a back up and even went on loan, he came back and proved himself.

Grant was a back up at first and then competed and was brilliant.

Walker showed glimpses when he played.

Betsy when he got his confidence back, looked a very handy back up player.

I could probably go on, in my eyes the team geled very well this season and the main problem early on was injuries.

I don't think theres any need to release any of the current squad, maybe a few of the youths who haven't developed as needed. And also we have to many strikers, maybe one needs to be cut.

I think we just need our strikers to stay fit next season, get another centre back and a winger and we will be fine.

Don't think by any means a clear out is needed though.

Yup, agree silent... no need for a mass clearout - if anything, keep as many as poss and add some quality in certain areas and I think we'll have a great chance.

At the start of last season, you would not have thought Mildenhall, Sankofa, Grant, Moussa and probably Revell would be up to much considering who they were replacing in the side.

I think it took us (as a team) a long while to adjust to losing most of our best players - take Flavs, Mulgrew, Bailey, Maher and Gower out of a side - and well, that is 5 championship level players.

So worst thing we can do now is have another clear out. Get rid of some fringe players (Furlong, Walker perhaps and no doubt there could be 1 or 2 surprises - Scannell/Freedman/Betsy maybe) sure, but lets keep this nucleus of mainly young players and build on it.

Surprised about Ademeno, not given a proper go in the first team yet the likes of Laurent and Doogy get put in half fit and frankly have done naff all in the last few months.

Ademeno has impressed the few times I've seen him, dunno why he hasn't had a little bit more of a chance... he is strong and has pace and a decent touch... if he went i wonder if we'd regret it?

Heard Jamie forshaw had been released, others were waiting to hear monday just gone.

i hope not!!! forshaw has been impresive in all the 2nd string games ive seen, his a left winger who i thought could possibly break into the first team real shame if true.

Upson is not on Ipswichs 'released' list -http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/i/ipswich_town/8040140.stm - so looks like he won't be coming here...

Sankofa and solid do not go into the same sentance together! and i disagree with Herd being a brilliant cover, he is still too young and not composed enough yet

I agree Hindle, I thought this extra development contracts are there to help players like Forshaw gain a bit of extra experience to push towards the first team.

We have had far too much player turnover the last couple of years thanks, what we actually need is a bit of stability and just a bit more quality added to what we already have and I think we will be ok.

Why all this negativity towards Sankofa (not just you either SS5)? I don't recall him having any real nightmare games (compare that to Sir Adam of Barratt on the other side of the pitch, who has made far more mistakes than Ozzy). He's more than willing to get forward too. Perhaps not as much as Francis, and maybe not to such good effect, but he has played some good football in the opposition half.

In my opinion he's a solid defender. He's young too and will get better as he matures.

Shame about Ademeno and Forshaw, liked both of them. I think a lot of players met yesterday over contracts, wonder where exactly Clarkey's is at in negotiating stakes?
