Turner Left Livid After Southend Display
Posted on: Fri 27 Mar 2009
Chris Turner was livid with the match officials after seeing his courageous Pools' side beaten 3-2 at Southend United.
Turner's men recovered from the shock of finding themselves two goals and a man down inside 16 minutes but could not find an equalising goal to take a deserved point.
And while the Pools' chief felt pride in his side's display, he was left furious with some of the decisions made by the officials,
"Well in thirty years of football, I have never seen such a disgraceful display from a man in the middle of a football pitch," Turner told Pools World.
"All the major decisions went against us - I'm stood 75 yards away and everybody can see that the ball hit the defender on the hand and the linesman is 15 yards away and he can't put his flag up for a penalty.
"When you see the one given against Michael Nelson at Cheltenham two weeks' ago, it's absolutely laughable and these people run this game of football."
But Turner was proud of his players' efforts - particularly in the second half when Pools dominated proceedings,
"We had to play 75 minutes with ten men against a team going for the play offs and we absolutely wiped the floor with them in the second half.
"I'm proud of the second half display and I think the fans who stayed til the end clapped the team off because they knew that we didn't get beat by Southend, we got beat by the official tonight.
"I have never ever blamed an offical for anything during my career but tonight I thought that was disgraceful."
