Harrold against Millwall

Harrolds performance against Millwall

Well put. Because defenders are running and jumping to meet the ball rather than shifting backwards to try and flick it on it gives them natural leverage. I play centre half on a Sunday and loathe as I am to use a park football analogy, I'm 5ft 10 and if I ever get beaten in the air by a striker, even if he's 6ft 3, I'm disappointed with myself. To put it simply, try running backwards / sideways and jumping compared to jumping when running forward and see what the difference is.

I'm trying hard not to be dragged into defending Harrold too much because it's fairly clear he is not the answer to our striking woes. However, he won more than his share of ball in the air yesterday and plenty of tackles on the ground as well. He deserves praise where praise is due.

agreed. my only criticism of Harrold is that he doesn't get off the ground that well but he did win a fair share of headers and when the ball is to chest or feet he is excellent

I thought he did OK. Worked very hard, won quite a few headers which as Jai said is hard when you're up against a big centre back whose got his hands all over you. He never goes forward though. Every time he gets the ball he just lays it off to someone behind him. As a target man he did a decent job, and him and MacDonald showed signs of potentially being a good partnership.

A lot of Harrolds contributions go unnoticed for example Blacks run and shot, As Black was going accross the face of box harrold pulled wide, th defender went with Harrold to prevent the through ball but it gave Black the space to turn and get a shot in.
His biggest failing for me is that he isn't quite strong enough yet he causes defences trouble by holding the ball up and winning headers but they soon get wise that they can counter this by a slight pull on the shirt or by holding him down, he has not quite got the power to shrug off these "challanges" yet, when this comes he will either shrug off the challange or force a challange which will be less subtle and get spotted by the officials.

h and occasionally his lay offs are a tad heavy.

There is no doubt his link up play has improved. He was coming short to feet and looking to spread to the wings. To be honest, Mark Gower had such a poor game that it made Harrold look worse as his balls were often good but not chased by the lacklustre winger. Definitely his best performance so far. There is no doubt he can finish, in the warm ups he always the most accurate. He just needs confidence, a bit of backing from the fans and the right kinds of balls played to him. He will not run behind like Freddy did. We have to learn that.

Following on from your point here peanut, did anybody else think that Gower looked far from fit?

he done okay i thought, he needs a goal to boost his confidence. Nothing wrong with the link up play on Saturday, just needs to get in the box a bit more i feel.
