what would you give his performance?? this definitely seems to split SZ!

I thought he did ok, nothing special. But like what most people think on here, we need someone else up front who can hold the ball up and notch a few.

As said before worst player on the pitch so a 4/5.

Four out of Five is pretty good. ;)

Harrold was very good on saturday. Probably his best performance in a Southend shirt. People are saying that he didn't get on the end of anything in the box but that was because he was five yards outside the area winning the headers and dragging the defenders out of position that set up the chances in the first place.

I'm no massive Matt Harrold fan at all, and don't think he's anything like as good as Lee Bradbury or Shaun Goater were in that same position but I'm not so blinkered as to not be able to see when he's had a good performance like he did on saturday.

Out of 10 ;)

I thought he played quite well, his link-up play was good. I think he sometimes needs to gamble a bit more in the box though.

I would never describe myself a fan of Matt Harold and do not think he will ever set this division alight. However he should be given credit when credit is due. He worked extremely hard, won a number of balls and his link up play was the best I have ever seen.

All players make mistakes throughout a game and it seems that some people choose only to see those. The same muppets who booed Matt before the game had even started.

completely agree. some bloke in front (who was an absolute plonker) shouted at him when he brought the ball down esquisitly with his chest.. "use your head you ginger tosser"... after he laid the ball off the bloke then went to his mate "look harrolds on the edge of the box he needs to be in the 6-yard box".... argh!!! people like that are complete muppets and obviously haven't played any football. he cant be in two places at once and his control is first class. goater and bradbury are definitely better players but im not going go slate harrold when IMO he played really well. it's like people who slated lampard when he was our best player the other night.

I wouldn't say it has split SZ. He played pretty well, its just a couple of people don't like him and had already decided before the whistle that he would play crap.

yeah you are right. it was probably the best performance i have seen from harrold when he has started the match. people seem to forget he changed quite a few games from the bench as well last season

Harrold played very well, nice chest control then lay offs then a spin towards the box. He won a fair percentage of headers (especially when you consider defenders should be winning nearly all of these, how pleased would you be if Clarke/Barrett kept on getting beaten in the air?), and linked up the play very well. He didn't get into the box that much but that wasn't his job. The fox in the box MaccyD was feeding off of him and it looked to work well. He brought the midfield into attack, and we attacked as a team, which does make up a little for the lack of fire power he has. If he plays like that every game I'd have no problems with him being a regular. Obviously you would prefer a big man with an eye for goal but we can't have everything.

Well played Matt.

Yep, it seems that our fans always need one player in the sidewho they have decided will play crap.

The performance agianst Millwall was all about the team. Harrold had a job to do for the team which he did and yeah there were people sitting near me slagging him off for not being on the end of his own flicks ons and headers.

Thought he was OK, and did well without ever really having a scoring chance. Mrs ETTB thought he was poo. What would football be without opinions.

Does anyone on here sit in the East Greens, row M seat 104/105. If so you are the biggest muppet on the planet.

He comes out with comments such as after 10 minutes against Orient. "We are a mid table side and I have wasted £400 on my season ticket". He also expects the scores of football matches to be 25-23 as every time we attack and don't score he slags off anybody that he can, say they are crap and Tilly should take them off. When he doesn't he slags off Tilly.

Anyone fanacy a cheap season ticket as I can't stand a whole season of him.

There is no doubt his link up play has improved. He was coming short to feet and looking to spread to the wings. To be honest, Mark Gower had such a poor game that it made Harrold look worse as his balls were often good but not chased by the lacklustre winger. Definitely his best performance so far. There is no doubt he can finish, in the warm ups he always the most accurate. He just needs confidence, a bit of backing from the fans and the right kinds of balls played to him. He will not run behind like Freddy did. We have to learn that.

i borrowed a friends season ticket andhe has to sit behind the biggest idiot ever

west stand u block row o seat 105 you are a tool!!!!!

Well put. Because defenders are running and jumping to meet the ball rather than shifting backwards to try and flick it on it gives them natural leverage. I play centre half on a Sunday and loathe as I am to use a park football analogy, I'm 5ft 10 and if I ever get beaten in the air by a striker, even if he's 6ft 3, I'm disappointed with myself. To put it simply, try running backwards / sideways and jumping compared to jumping when running forward and see what the difference is.

I'm trying hard not to be dragged into defending Harrold too much because it's fairly clear he is not the answer to our striking woes. However, he won more than his share of ball in the air yesterday and plenty of tackles on the ground as well. He deserves praise where praise is due.

My favourite crowd comments from last Saturday were from some people sat near me who were criticising Tilson for allowing Bradbury and JCR to leave. They had been calling for those two to be subbed/shot/got rid of for the past 12 months.

When Bradbury scored a hattrick one of these guys comments were "he's still sh*t". Next week he's saying Tilson is clueless for letting him go!
