I think we would have walked away with the titleIf tilly was given the resources that sturrock. Had 13th in a div full of non keague teamsIs poor considering his buys supposedly had l1 experienceMind u so did sturrock junior lookbwhere that got him

Same here, I am grateful for PS, before he took over last July, I was fearing an another relegation to Conference, as we starting 5th July with just 2 players left from our relegation from League 1 - Lincoln City could easily be us in bottom two with Stockport - Just image how we feel, to watch Southend running out of Root Hall tunnel alongside Braintree Town players and sit and watch Braintree scored a winner in front of their 500+ fans in North Bank - that is stuff of nightmare!

I hope we can improve from our 13th place finish, in fact, we finished 7 point behind the play off, has we didn't make a bad start in first half of the season, we would be right up there - I would take 7th place next season!

Mr Luggy I said some bad things about you last season but in hindsight you did a cracking job last season. Very impressed with the players we have signed in the summer. There really is no excuse for at least a top 6 place with the best winger in the league (Hall), one of the best strikers (Corr) and one of the best centre backs (Barker) providing a great spine, a great mix of experience and youth and some real good characters and professionals who always gave 100% last season. Lets rip this league up.

What non-league teams?
As far as I am aware we are members of what I "fondly" recall as Division 4, but now because of the daft changes we are members of League 2. This and the 3 divisions above us constitute the Football League, hence by definition there are no non league teams in the competition.

I'm guessing that by "non keague teams" you mean teams that were previously outside of the top four divisions at some point in their history. If that's right, please can you tell us why it's of any relevance? Putting aside election and re-election, the transfer of teams between what is now League 2 and what most people call non league, has been happening for around 24 years.

Assuming you mean "had we not made a bad start ... etc", this is wrong. The start was better than the finish. If we'd started how we finished we'd be on our way to Braintree and Ebbsfleet this season.

For me the signs this season are positive but the proof is still in the pudding.

As Mick said we didnt really do a lot last season. I in no way blame PS for that but I think whilst he made some great signings (Hall, Moshni, Barker) he made a lot of flops too.

I really feel that we are building for the future and I think this could be our year. However as yet all we have really achieved is a lower half L2 finish. The rest is just potential.

A year from now I am confident we will have a lot to thank him for.

I am just pleased that we are still here and yes he has done a good job and put a fairly decent side out last season. I am encouraged by the signings so far and as ever am looking forward to next season. Especially so as my 6 year old boy has decided that he no longer wants to support Chelsea and is coming to his first game with me on August 6th

And that is what it is all about, getting new blood into the support for the club. Echo most sentiments on here that PS has done a very good job considering the circumstances on his entry
Welcome to the board by the way

Some had no experience higher than conference or League two either.

Bilel hadnt played at any sort of level and look at the player we have there.

Whatever feelings are regarding Tilson, Sturrock came in and had to build a squad within two weeks. He didnt have huge resources and had to get players no one else wanted for free. He also had to convince them to join a club in financial ruin. He then had to create a team out of them, they barely even knew each other when the season kicked off.

Most people on here had us down for relegation yet we finished in a safe position and I really dont see how with the circumstances he had to work under how that can be a failure.

If we dont reach the playoffs this year Id say that would be worthy of criticism, but anyone who thinks we should have done so last year has some really strange expectations...

Let's look beyond the hyperbole.

With a completely free hand, no baggage to inherit and a better than average wage bill at his disposal but admittedly not much time, he assembled a squad not quite good enough to keep us out of the bottom half of the bottom division, our lowest position for a long while. We also concluded the last third of the season with indisputably relegation form; not much pride there in my opinion.

Can't see what all the hero worship is about.

Having said that, I am encouraged by this season's signings and think there is a reasonable chance that he might actually earn the adoration and respect that he's getting already (unless the dead hand of our leader can throw another spanner in the works!).

Well said, this is a realistic and factual assessment of where things stand at the moment regarding Paul Sturrock and his managing of Southend United
