Guttridge 'tracked'

The report is right that our dip in form was in some part due to the absence of Gutts in the middle of the park - however, if the offer is of a stupid nature (£500k plus) and the player wants to go... I think we would all know the result.

In anycase, isn't it a bit of a compliment that bigger clubs are acknowledging that we have decent players?  However if it's just the agent trying to upgrade his BMW with the commission, then Cody can rot in hell.

In fact, it was a three year deal... so neither of us was quite right...!

Tilly Gets His Man

He signed a three year deal on 18th March 2005 (the day before our 3-0 away win at Cheltenham), so he's under contract to us until 17th March 2008.

It should also be noted that Gutts was under contract at the Abbey Stadium until June 2006...

My guess is that the "3 year" contract term on the official site included a bit of rounding. I'd be confident that he's under contract until 30th June 2008 given that 30th June is the standard contract end date.

I believe the term was "3 year deal" but that the rest of last season constituted the 1st year which at the end of the day is inaccurate reporting. Hence I believe Guttridge is contracted til Summer 2007.

I can't believe anyone would get a player to agree a contract until mid-March with a long-term contract?? Is this stonewall fact MtS? If so I'm very surprised by the club.

For the record you only have to look at what happened when Gutts was injured and when he came back, for me I believe we lost at least 5 or 6pts with Gutts injury which obviously cost us. We can't afford to even consider selling him til AT LEAST the summer.

As for Championship clubs, what the point of going there while Luke can play at that level with us next season (I wish). A choice of playing as an part of promotion winning squad or sit on an Bench for Leicester City & watch as they go down with Southend replacing their place in the Championship.

Isn't Clubcall the same webpage that brought us beauties such as

Freddy to Palace?
Freddy to Southampton?
Freddy to Norwich?

Three clubs who are nevertheless strongly tipped to make bids for Freddy this window after all 3 ADMITTED their interest. ClubCall's normally pretty good, its TeamTalk thats a load of crap.

As for Murkey_Mouse's comments above where did Leicester City come from? It's Derby, Palace and Reading and quite frankly if he gets the chance to go to Palace or Reading in particular he's gonna want to jump ship and to be honest who could blame him.

several thousand Southend fans i reckon?

Iam using Leicester as an example what an mistake Luke would make if he jump ship at the wrong time, Palar*e & Derby are stocked with midfielders plus Derby got no money with 25million in debts.

He should wait till summer, so Southend can have time to find an suitable replacement & get the new replacement into Pre-season training so Southend can have time to move on without him.

Luke, if you want highest level football, we won't stand in your way, why don't u wait till end of season, its better for 7'000 Southenders if you wait.

To be fair to club call - they are probably right. I would be very surprised if Gutts isn't being tracked by some club in the higher leagues. We are a small club that is sitting top of league one - people will be wanting to know why. Answers will lie with players such as Gutts, Freddy and Barrett.

It doesn't mean these clubs will move now and it doesn't mean the players will go.

It's just speculation. I'll believe it when I see someone make a bid for him (and see it rejected!)

martin said he wouldn't let fredy go for a million, and i reckon he'd say the same about guttridge.
