Guttridge 'tracked'

How long is his contract? Didn't we sign him for 3 years?

Guttridge to Charlton?

By Colin Fisher
Date: 20/5/2004

LUKE GUTTRIDGE could be set to move to Premier$hite outfit Charlton Athletic according to his agent. Guttridge's agent Richard Cody is to meet with Alan Curbishley, who is very interested in signing the U's Player of the Year.

The 22-year-old midfielder spent a couple of days training with the Addicks earlier in the year and a substancial offer will be hard for Cambridge to turn down.

Coddy said: "I'll be talking to Alan later and the situation with Luke won't really be clear until I've spoken to him but Charlton are still very interested in him."

Yes we did. He's going nowhere without it being a substantial fee.

What is the point of Cody? He is a complete idiot! This story seems to be hype more than substance, it would take one helluva bid to see Gutts go.

Gotta be talking AT LEAST £500k given his performances this season, age and length of contract. Given that Palace and Reading (not sure about Derby) have cash to spend I reckon we should aim nearer to £800k.

To talk up his client and get him as much money as possible... which is something he seems extremely adept at doing.

Gutts signed for 3½ years when he joined us in March - i.e. until summer 2008. It would take a lot of money, I would suggest, to prise one of our chief assets away from us now.

You see, I was right when I set up SUGARS all those months ago... oh ye (e.g. wiggy) who did not believe, repent...

If an agent is involved it is likely that Guttridge would not be bound for Palace due to Simon Jordans position of not dealing with agents - and more power to his elbow.

This is largely speculation, and it has to be said that we should not be selling our prize assets. Unless of course we are offered a really crazy fee.

Yeah Guttridge is a rare breed IMHO - how many centre midfielders out there are good in the tackle, good passing ability, decent shot on them AND are comfortable with EITHER foot? I can't remember any other central player for us in 18 years who was comfortable with both left AND right.

Finding a replacement for him would be very tough and more than likely expensive too.....

Simon Jordan will deal with agents but he refuses to pay their fees - he insists the agent's fees are payed for by the player (a not unreasonable position given that the agent is acting for the player and not the club).

If Gutts goes we can forget promotion this year in my opinion, don't think we could find anyone to fit straight in, even for a reasonable amount of cash.

In fact, it was a three year deal... so neither of us was quite right...!

Tilly Gets His Man

He signed a three year deal on 18th March 2005 (the day before our 3-0 away win at Cheltenham), so he's under contract to us until 17th March 2008.

It should also be noted that Gutts was under contract at the Abbey Stadium until June 2006...

When i first saw Gutts (Maccie away last year) he was absolutly amazing and my mate who tagged along (Forest fan) still claims he is our only decent player and that we are a one man team.
Losing Gutts would be terrible as our results this season when he has not been in the team have showed.
