Grunge

Firstly i think i must be the only one to say that Ms Weener is a bit of a minger. The picture shows her off in a light not accurate to her in reality.

Secondly, there's far too many posts that i agree and disagree with so therefore can't pick out individual posts for comment, but yes i think Nirvana were the only true Grunge band and history will tell us that. I didn't and don't like any of their music but it appreciate their relevance at the time.
The Mondays summed up the baggy era perfectly.
Like any mad drug scene and era, it's not based in or on reality therefore people just realise they have to change, and when that change happened the Mondays weren't needed any more.

I personallyPreferred Mondays to Nirvana.

Whatever you prefer the outcome is the same.....both lead singers now have no brains.

I think as an actual music genre it is pretty impossible to define grunge as a souind.

The most obvious attribute is the quiet/loud dynamic of verse/chorus that was across the board in the early days - but a lot of Nirvana's tracks were more punk, whilst Pearl Jam were more rock and Alice In Chains/Soundgardens influences were bands like Black Sabbath...

I dont know if you can listen to a piece of music and say "that is grunge" where things like Punk, Jazz and Ska are instantly recognisable.

Personally, I only really consider probably Alice In Chains Stone Temple Pilots 'Purple' album as true grunge music - fuzzy detuned guitars set against thoughtful, though depressing lyric content...

Anyways, I love it!

Quote[/b] (Ron Manager @ Dec. 19 2004,19:41)]Kurt didn't kill baggy, baggy was just another one of those made up 'scenes' invented by a journalist and the two truly great bands in the made up scene were The Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays.
Heresy.

Ask anyone who has been to Resurrection at the Pink Toothbrush if baggy doesn't exist. It was wall to wall flares and bowlcuts.

Grunge~ People who were too good to play punk and too bad to play Rock? that's how someone summed it up. I

couldn't get to grips with the American punk scene though I did like Husker Du who I reckon were the Godfathers of Grunge. Nirvana were ok!

Surely the godfather of grunge is Neil Young!!?

His album with Pearl Jam, Mirrorball, is quality... as is the Pearl Jam sister EP, Merkinball.
