Nicky Bailey actually played really well in his last ACTUAL appearance, rather than his last scheduled appearance, for the club. Seem to remember it was a bit of a virtuoso performance.

Ron Pountney 1985 against Torquay disgracefully released by the club dispite being about the only player who cared about Southend and should have been given a coaching job by the club. We avoided reelection as it was in those days and about 50 of us stayed behind to celebrate(we really were starved on success then) when Ron Pountney appeared he was lifted up and chaired around the car park.
Would have had one further game his testimonial that season but West Scum cancelled it.
