Good Players, But Not Fan Favourites?

Joolz

Coach⭐
Reading Leon Clarkes interview on the OS got me thinking how great it is to have a player doing all the right things on the pitch AND saying all the right things off of it. Early days but could turn out to be a real fan's favourite.

But how often have we had a good player at the Hall, but for some reason or another they have totally failed to hit it off with the fans?

I'll start the ball rolling by nominating Brett Angell. Gave us very good service, but always gave the impression that he'd rather be somewhere else IMO. Very boring in interviews, and didn't come across as over popular with his team mates either.

OK, maybe I should have worded the question differently. How about 'Players who weren't as popular as their exploits deserved'?

I always thought Keith Jones was fantastic but dont really ever recall him being a fans favourite.

(Gets ready for hundrerds of posts saying how much they loved Keith Jones).

I thought the only person who didn't like Keith Jones was Colin Murphy who inexplicably dropped him.

People liked him but I dont recall him getting the same credit or talked of as fondly of Dave Martin or say Peter Butler who I think were lesser players.

Constantine is so arrogant, great player but didn't think much of him as a person.

He upset me when I asked him last game of his final season of being a Shrimper. Are you going to be playing for us next season he said "Yes I definatly will be". Leon Cort said exactly the same thing to me.

I think Mark Gower may fit into this category.

For me he has been a fantastic player for Southend, I really rate him highly. Not sure everybody thinks the same.

Scott Forbes the most under appreciated player ever to play for Southend his quality was second to none! ;)

I didn't mind Cort leaving us too much. I dread to think where the hell this club would be if he didn't play for us at that time.

Maher, Gower, Constantine definatly come into this as does Nicky Nicolau imo. Jay Smith aswell as when fit that lad was quality but never a fans favourite
