Good Luck from a Chester fan

Thanks. It is a great City. We have a great manager but hard to get out of this regional league. I hardly watch them now because i live in the south.
I was really hoping you would be promoted, as, if we don't make it, there would nave been a battle royale between Iwan Murray and our Keenan Appiah-Forson. Both pocket dynamos.

I saw you at Yeovil bizarrely and thought you had some really good players..an old looking guy i recall? Yes Murray a fantastic player who at this level gets kicked to pieces every game. I will watch out for your guy tonight on Dazn. Good luck

Yes, I certainly am and a lot further back. He was a natural goalscorer and a bit mad, as you say. I met a guy who went to school with him and he said he could hardly get in the school team but determination counts for a lot. Andy Harris played for Chester...lovely bloke and got me tickets. Took him and his wife out to a meal in the heart of Dorset when he moved to Weymouth. He said 90% of his game was determination and fitness, rather than tricks
I went to Sealand Road a few times back in the late 60's early 70's and I seem to remember the floodlights that looked quite different? One of our all time greats Billy Best made his debut there in January 1968. Chester had some brilliant players back in the day especially the likes of Gary Talbot, Alan Tarbuck and the brilliant Andy Provan who always seems to score against us no matter who he played for. Former Shrimpers who also played at Sealand Road back in the day were Barry Ashworth, Terry Bradbury and slightly later were a couple of my all time favourite players Graham Birks and the late great Gary Moore who if memory serves me well scored in the League Cup semi final against the Villa?

No, that is true as far as I am aware. The arguent comes up regularly but i think if you look at Wiki it confirms it. Fans sometimes call us sheepshaggers as opposed to Northern scum etc! Confusing for them!
Went to Chester and the ground is in 2 different places, seem to recall in covid it was a problem as the Welsh rules were different from the English.Hopefully Chester will make it next year ,lovely place for a long weekend.

Gosh, you must be as old as me. I am a southern fan of Chester and mum came from there. I met Gary T at his studio shop as he was a photographer, as I am. Loveliest guy. He told me how Shearer had beaten his speedy 3 goals in 3 mins against Crewe. Seemed to know him well. Andy Provan...legend for me, a short guy on the left wing and Billy Dearden on the right. A great team. Bizarre but i got my dad, who didn't like football to take me to Northampton, because i lost my license (!). Tarbuck scored twice. Still around. Ashworth I remember knocking an opponent out! Apparently he served time. We let him go because he got too many red cards. Bradbury brilliant..no4? Graham Birks the smiler. I filmed them on my dad's camera after training. He is in it. Search Chester memories Part1 I think should work. Evocative and emotional.

This is the link. Graham Birks is at the end. i filmed this when i was 16, forgot all about it.

I certainly do wish the very best. I don't know what Oldham are like but you have great momentum now and I don't think you will do a Chester and fall at the final hurdle. Think of us as you escape lower league football..
Hopefully SUFC will vote for 3 down from League 2 and 3 up from NL (if we do it), just in time for Chester FC that come up from NLN.

Alas the other 10% of his game seemed to be scoring own goals and conceding penalties.

I think his best moment for us at Roots Hall was when he was in a Chester shirt and he skied a ball in his own penalty area from which Laurie Dudfield scored.

What’s he up to now? He was supposedly one of the brainiest footballers and a big thing was made about him having 10 GCSEs.
