Goater

stickyboy

Director
How does everyone feel about the Goat, when he first came here thought it was a good signing and promptly banged in 6 goals and we all thought top signing but personally think he has been well off the pace for months now and gives the ball away to easily and dare I say doesnt always give the impression of being totally interested (that may be more his age) I realise he has great experience and all that but do we feel as though Gray/Lawson should now be given more of a chance and perhaps give him a longer rest to re-charge any batteries he may have left and perhaps have him on the bench.

I agree Goater needs replacing, but I don't know if we have anything better to replace him with. Just because he's playing poorly doesn't suggest Gray or Lawson would be better. I think we need another goalscorer and we have been linked to Agogo in the past and I believe his contract expires at the end of the season? So maybe Bri Rovers would accept a small fee? I'd love to see him at the Hall.

I agree stickyboy. He's lazy and doesn't seem interested. He's just happy to pick up a nice wage packet before he retires. I know he's 35 but he's still lazy and very easy to mark. None of the parnterships seem to be working at the moment, maybe give Freddy and Lawson a go as they haven't been tried yet?

This is a team problem, so... (apologies in advance)

Don't blame it on Maher,
Don't blame it on Gower
Don't blame it on Goater...

Blame it on those teams who have played better than us on the day. This wasn't going to be easy, and I'll take anything as long as it's 20th or higher this year.

Disagree.

having seen both the good and bad sides of the goat i reckon that:

even when he doesnt look fit he still does a pretty good job of holding the ball up and flick-ons, however many good strikers in league 1 and 2 can do this and more.

when he is tired he loses his shooting abilty, he had a good chance yesterday which i am confident an inform, fit striker would have put away

im sure however that he isn't lazy, freddy is the fit one and often chases down centre backs and drops deep to pick the ball up.  often freddy is deep and the goat intercepts long balls but needs freddy to be running through to split the defence, however communication and games will really help improve relationships.  the goat often makes passes that in the Premier$hite of championship, strikers would get on the end of, however freddy isn't ready for this, he needs to learn to play with the goat, dont forget the goat has dropped another division and is adjusting to his team and the style of football played

calling the goat lazy is unfair i think, he seems to give it his all IMO but i think tilly is the one who needs to recognise this and make changes earlier, gray and lawson at various stages in this season have been our best strikers, why only give them 5-10mins when the goat is clearly knackered at half time???

Then your easily pleased then!

as Goater seems to struggle why not start him on the bench and bring him on for the last 20 mins when we are trying to get the equalizer. Personally I think Tilly wouldnt want to upset him and not play him apart from the odd game as though there is something in his contract to play whenever possible

Sums up my feelings exactly...Wayne Gray for me !

As you may or not remember I was sceptical about signing him but I only ever saw him being used in rotation with our other strikers , i think he and the team would greatly benefit from being used far more sparingly and as Ive said before i wonder if Tilly is maybe overawed by his presence ?

agreed.

on saturday, Goater made two moves which were a class above, one which Freddy should have scored from, the other Freddy wasnt quick enough for.

We could always go back to Drewe...

Goater is class. But he is 35 and as mentioned before thought Wayne and Freddy would be the main two strikers with Goat and Lawson being used as rotation. This hasn't happened as Goater and Freddy are now perceived as the first two. Goater can not play 46 league games a season anymore. I thought he would of been used every couple of games and came on as sub a few times. He looks tired and off the pace and maybe he has burnout already? Maybe give him some decent time off - let him recover and then bring him back.
