My first game of the season and have to say i walked away disappointed in what i saw, For me there is little creativity in the side, little width and nothing up front that will scare sides. As times the back line was cut open with a couple of passes.

Akinfenwa got some stick but you can see he will always score goals, even being the beast he is.

I know this is league 2 but i just couldn't see any spark of creativity, until Jarvis came on and it brightened up.

We will pick up points this season for sure but it wont be pretty and if that gets us out of the division then i will take it.

Soares - 4 poor again
Timlin - 7 did some good work passing
Grant - 6 one of his quiter games
Simpson - 7 worked hard still think he is a cm tho
Corr - 5 should of scored at the end ans was por throughout
Sturrock - 8 he may not scor 20 a season or even 10 bt he could easily make you 20 goals i really rate blait
Hall -7 tricky and set up jarvis with a goldnen chance
Jarvis - 8 very quick and livend it up

Overall a draw was a fair result, Gills had a few more chances than us but I felt it was a game played by two average Divsion 2 teams who will finish about 10th to 14th on this form and with these squads.
Was surprised that Hall was dropped in favour of Soares! Jarvis looked very sharp and hungry when he came on and should start the next game in place of Sturrock. Hall is a far better player than Soares, what is PS playing at here?

A surprisingly enjoyable 0-0 that, really glad I went (however sarcastic that sounds).

I thought we really held on to get a point, especially when McDonald fired wide, though that might have nestled in the far corner. We did have a few chances ourselves, Simpson in the first half firing over under pressure, Corr curling just wide in time added on and Jarvis in 1on1 out wide. Though Mohsni did a great job on Akinfenwa, the lad is huge and a massive presence for the long ball.

Right, ratings:
Morris - 7 - I thought he did well, did everything asked of him more than adequately, didn't quite put him down for a world beaters performance that Sturrock seemed to imply but made some good saves (expected him to make them though really).
Clohessy - 7.5 - Looked reasonably solid at the back and good going forward as always, put in a quality last ditch block too that probably saved a goal.
Gilbert - 6.5 - Doesn't look as good as Clohessy, but didn't do much wrong. Can't say I'm a fan of his relaxed attitude 'lets walk as slow as I can to get the ball' on throw-ins, but that doesn't really affect his performance as such.
Mohsni - 8 - Won 80-90% in the air against Akinfenwa. Admittedly, he does have a reasonably height advantage, but did well against a tough opponent when others may have struggled.
Barker - 7.5 - Looked solid at the back again, you'll be able to count the amount of mistakes he makes this season on one hand. Mr. consistent, mr. composed, mr. experienced. Key key player and fantastic signing if you ask me (dependant on wages, of course). Another note, when outside the ground heard a Gillingham fan complimenting Mr. Barker, so can't have done badly.
Simpson - 7 - Looked solid and assured on the right, maybe could have done better with a chance in the first half and let one go past him when Sturrock let it run but did all that was expected of him really. Could take a few lessons of crossing off of Clohessy or Sturrock though.
Soares - 7 - Got stuck in well, a good shout in place of Hall as seems a bit more physical to me and knocked it about quite well.
Timlin - 7.5 - For me he looks a good player, gets stuck in and can pick a pass. Perfect cover for Easton.
Grant - 8 - His normal class shone again, especially some last ditch slide tackles, notably one on Akinfenwa as he was bearing down on goal from 25y. Shame he had to go off, such a good player.
Sturrock - 7.5 - Did pretty much everything asked of him last night. Picked out some very nice passes, remember wondering what he was doing not playing the simple ball but instead managed to play Simpson in on goal out wide. Very impressed with his performance and I'm quite a fan of his, we all know his limitations but he's an honest hardworking footballer who does a good job for the side. Tricky whether to include him at home, but away from home definitely seems an asset.
Corr - 7 - Did quite well for me, struggled against Gowling in the air but that was mainly due to the quality of opposition rather than him being off form. Played some nice football on the deck and put himself about. Very good signing IMO.

subs:
Hall - 6.5 - Hard to rate as didn't notice him too much, just seemed part of the side, so probably around the same as the others, for the sake of pringello gone for a 6.5.
Jarvis - 7 - Looked a astute loan signing, has some pace although isn't lightning, very strong for his age and clearly a good player. Nice positioning for his effort 1on1 and a nice touch, decent effort on target but was hoping he'd clip it over the keeper, but we can't have it all. Will be a great weapon to have waiting in the wings, hope to see him sign for the season.

Sorry but have to disagree. Thought it was anything other than a dour performance. I thought 1st half we were very good and it was inevitable that Gillingham would come at us after the break. Man for man the work rate couldn't be faulted and certainly defensively the back four were committed and worked hard for each other. Clohessey seems to be the unsung hero as I think he gets better with every game both defensively and attacking wise. Couldn't really fault anyone tonight.

What I can't understand is the ever continuing differences of opinion on Blair Sturrock. I really can't agree with your comments and honestly believe we must have been watching different games. I thought he had a great game, he has fantastic vision and every single chance we created was through his passing, both great chances for Soares, which he should have done better with and a fantastic ball on the turn through for Simpson, who similarly should have done better.

I honestly can't believe where the comments of 'off form' and 'did little of significance' and 'Corr - better than Sturrock' come from. Certainly not relevant to the game I was watching.
That's the beauty of football though, it would be quite boring if everyone agreed about everything all the time! I called it as I saw it and that was that of our striking duo, I felt Corr had the better game.

Morris -7.5
Clohessy -7

Gilbert -6.5
Barker - 6.5
Mohsni - 7
Soares -5.5
Timlin -6
Grant -6.5
Simpson -6
Corr -6.5
Sturrock -6
Hall -6
Jarvis - 6.5

Solid performance, either team could have nicked it, happy with a point. Defence, Mohsni especially more solid, odd mistake but not as often. Attack got into dangerous positions but no composure in front of goal, culprits - Soares, Corr, Simpson & Jarvis.

That was my first game this season. Very encouraged.

Thought Sturrock was too intelligent for the other forwards and that Soares was poor and looked puffed after an hour.

Dont think we've got enough for promtion but can see us consolidating this season which most of us would have been happy with at the start!!
