Decent result against the Gills - so much better than our away performances against them last season. They have a great home record so I'd have taken a point beforehand but it's a shame Corr missed those two chances at the end. BS looked a few mental steps ahead of those around him which was a pity - if they'd reacted a bit quicker we might have got the other two points. Jarvis looked the business too. Things are looking quite promising.

Hard earned point...which I would have settled for if offered to me at 7pm

We edged the first half, they were better second half even though Corr and Jarvis had a couple of golden opportunites to win it late on.

I just enjoy watching my club again - it's nice to watch a side that actually gives a s**t about the shirt that they are wearing. Whether its the warm ups, appealing as a team, getting round each other, making the effort with the fans, giving their all on the pitch....its all done with purpose.

Ecspecially after some of the cr@p attitudes we had to endure last season from many of the players.

They are not technically the best team we have had, but this group of players appear to give everything they have.

A 0-0 away in the ar*e end of Kent on a tuesday night - but if they give effort like tonight, I would gladly support them time and time again.

Clohessey did well tonight both ways, Barker put in a couple of important blocks, they all contributed.

Up the Blues

P.S Like the look of that young Jarvis - very sharp even if he is all left footed

P.P.S How Fat is Akinfenwa, I honestly couldnt believe my eyes - fair play to him though, he enjoyed some decent banter with the away following

Decent result really, but should have been all three, but i suppose strikers who take there chances on a regular bases cost money.

Not bad, a point when I thought we would get none.

Thought we shaded it first half and contained them quite easily until the last 5 minutes or so when they had a couple of good moves. Every chance of ours fell to Soares whose finishing was dreadful with the exception of a great run from Simpson who was put clear by Sturrock but blazed over.

In the second half we started ok but they upped the pace and pressed us all over the pitch. Our midfield, which had been on top, was now struggling and we relied on the counter attack. It got quite hairy at times but there was some superb defending and a couple of good saves from Morris.

We nearly snatched it late on when both Jarvis and Corr should have done better but I guess this was probably fair on the night.

Morris 7

Clohessy 8
Gilbert 8 - best yet I've seen from him
Barker - 8
Mohsni - 8

Grant 7
Simpson 6.5

Corr 6
Sturrock 7

Subs

Hall - 7
Jarvis - 7 - Pace to burn but doesn't look in control of the ball

Interestingly dour performance, ALL of the defence played well, midfield were very defensive, leaving Soares to get in Sturrock's way up top alongside Corr. 1st half we were on top, 2nd half they were. Fat Boy looked like the Michelin Man but boy, was he involved for the entire game! He won countless flicks off his ample chest, shoulders or head to set up chance after chance for the Gills....and that was when he wasn't using his weight to great effect against Mohsni or Barker.

I'd be interested to know why Soares was started instead of Hall. All our best efforts fell to Soares who predictably shot them well wide. On the odd occasions when midfield broke, Simpson looked on much better form and Grant was doing all the necessary tackling. Blair looked a little off form - or, more likely, sussed out by the Gills as he was rarely able to hold the ball up for others. Subs were too late, we were all crying out for Jarvis to come on earlier, when he did there wasn't a lot of time to show pace but he showed he has something about him.

Morris - 7.5, much, much better. Some great saves
Clohessy - 8, had a great game, not afraid to attack and get in some good positions
Mohsni - 8, "good" Mohsni turned up, though he was being wound up by some poor reffing decisions against him and some bad challenges going unnoticed. Was throwing himself in the way of so much he could easily have cost us, also thought he was fortunate to get away with a handball while on his arse in the box
Barker - 8.5 MOTM, Akinfenwa was proving himself a handful but the captain "done well" and made some decisive blocks
Gilbert - 8, probably his best performance for us, very solid and kept their RB (who was excellent against us in the JPT) very quiet
Simpson - 7.5, all 3 CMs were playing very defensive but Simpson got the odd breakout, played some lovely one touch stuff with Grant
Grant - 7.5, like Simpson and Timlin, quite defensive, some great tackling. Sorry to see him subbed but he had just taken a bad knock, hope it's nothing serious
Timlin - 7, probably the most defensive of the trio, was busy keeping a lid on Mohsni's temper for a lot of the game!
Soares - 6, some good running but honestly, I don't understand why Sturrock keeps on with him, Hall has been so much better. Got in the way of both Sturrock (several times) and Corr and just can't shoot for toffee. Nor can he take a good corner, Hall's have been far superior
Sturrock - 6, contained well by Gillingham, did very little of significance
Corr - 7, better than Sturrock, some good aerial work

Subs:
Hall for Sturrock - 6.5, got stuck straight in though looked a little like a fish out of water playing up front initially
Jarvis for Grant - 7, the boy has definitely got something, though needs to work on positioning and understanding

Ref - 6, good enough performance, missed a few but what ref doesn't? Unfairly booked Corr, their player was barely touched yet went down as if he'd been stamped on

TBV - 8, some new songs, still don't get Blind Date though, sorry

A solid enough performance - didn't think anyone particularly shone, but nobody had a 'mare either. We contained Akinfenwa well, but TBH he doesn't look much of a threat these days. I felt we lost something when Grant and Sturrock were subbed, but we settled down by the last 5 minutes and looked more likely to take all 3 points in the end.

Never really got going, but good to hold out when under pressure in the second half. Command of the box was top notch and 2 great saves that had goal written all over them. Our finishing let us down last night, should really have been ahead at half time when on top.

I think the whole point of blind date is the fact its random and makes no sense bit like ring of fire I suppose

Think OBL gets it right - a dour performance!

Well done Morris, an outstanding display in goal. Defensively solid, Barker is a Warrior and I am beginning to warm to Clohessy. Gilbert finally gives a performance. Midfield was very defensive, Grant very quiet and Simpson needs more composure when going forward/in front of goal. Strikers were average, Corr and Jarvis should have scored and Blair gives a whole hearted performance again but gets nowhere. Cannot understand Soares getting a start, Hall is by far the better option.

A win against Lincoln is very important on Saturday, after that we have a few much harder games.

Sorry but have to disagree. Thought it was anything other than a dour performance. I thought 1st half we were very good and it was inevitable that Gillingham would come at us after the break. Man for man the work rate couldn't be faulted and certainly defensively the back four were committed and worked hard for each other. Clohessey seems to be the unsung hero as I think he gets better with every game both defensively and attacking wise. Couldn't really fault anyone tonight.

What I can't understand is the ever continuing differences of opinion on Blair Sturrock. I really can't agree with your comments and honestly believe we must have been watching different games. I thought he had a great game, he has fantastic vision and every single chance we created was through his passing, both great chances for Soares, which he should have done better with and a fantastic ball on the turn through for Simpson, who similarly should have done better.

I honestly can't believe where the comments of 'off form' and 'did little of significance' and 'Corr - better than Sturrock' come from. Certainly not relevant to the game I was watching.

A decent draw against a Gillingham side who rarely lose at home. 100% better performance than the dire one at Priestfield on Easter Monday and a much better game than the LDV 0-0 at Roots Hall earlier this season.

I'd have taken a point before the game and we nearly snatched a win twice at the end - although that probably would have been harsh on the Gills who also had a few chances to win it.

My ratings for Pringello:

Morris 8 - thought he played well tonight, couple of decent saves

Clohessy 8.5 MOM - great game against his former employers (got a nice reception from their fans too, so they obviously like him)
Barker 8 - marshalled the troops well and gave 100%
Mohsni 7 - gives me heart attacks everytime he has the ball, temper will see him sent off at least once this season, good test for him against fatboy
Gilbert 6 - better than some of his previous appearances but still looks like the weak link in the back 4

Timlin 7 - played well in the 1st half, faded a bit in the 2nd though
Simpson 7 - ditto Timlin
Grant 7 - not one of his better games, went off with an injury
Soares 5 - has he got some dirt on Sturrock or something? Can't see what he adds to the team

Sturrock 7 - an intelligent footballer, plays well as a link man and hope the midfield can start to read his deft passes and flicks soon.
Corr 7 - whole-hearted centre forward's performance tonight - shame that curling shot was just wide at the end

Subs:

Hall 7 - offers so much more than Soares, hope he starts on Saturday
Jarvis 7 - looks to have something about him, one decent chance at the end which the 'keeper saved well.

We look to have not sunk to League 2 football quite as deep as Gillingham, some of the passing in the 1st half was excellent. When we play the ball on the deck we look a really good side, however when we get drawn into a game of 4th Division hoofball we look pretty ordinary.

Edited to put in Pringello format!

Good first half for us.. Good second half for them.. Fat boy was fat but clearly his footballing mind is a level if not two above League 2 .. great reaction from him at the death.. thought Sturrock did well..Their centre half had a good last 45 .. Atmosphere poor but to be expected on that terrace.. If we had nicked it at the end the whole thing would probably have slid onto the pitch .

See I thought the point of blind date was because there were so many new players faces, the first few games would have felt like a blind date...
