Someone on the Colchester United forum has said that they have had a bid of 375k accepted by Cheltenham for Gillespie. This is a player i would very much like us to sign and i think it would signal our intention to gain promotion this coming season? Thoughts?
unfortunately having signed furlong i don't see us getting in another striker, let alone spending that much on one. we need to be sorting out some wingers and defenders!
From what I can see we need to sort out the whole fecking team!
If we aint gunna pay £150k for Mulgrew doubt we will pay that much for someone else.
A Scunthorpe site is reporting that they've dropped out of the race for Gillespie as Cheltenham want £500,000 and Colchester have already had a £400,000 bid rejected.................
Firstly, what are Colchester doing bidding £400,000 for a player and secondly is he really worth all that!?

I don't think that is down to whether we have £150,000 to spend, it's more down to the fact that we believed we'd get him for far less when we took him on loan.
We spent 350K on Chris Coyne, and 300K on Clive Platt.
375K for a new striker, would be a standard price for Colchester United these days.

The thing is, spending power is not simply down to revenue generated. If the chairman has significant funds at HIS disposal, which he is willing to spend on the team there is no 'natural' limit.
If this was not a major factor also, there is no way Fulham, Wigan or even Chelsea would be where they are today.
i think you will probably find it is down to the fact that we havent got 150k to spend
