Post-Match Thread and Ratings Gateshead 0-0 Southend United

Not ashamed to say I’m a bit emotional after that. We literally didn’t even know if our club was going to exist months ago and these boys have just put us in the playoffs. Absolutely exceptional bunch of lads, this season and the last, none of whom should ever have to buy a beer in Southend again. We came so close to extinction and none of them ever gave up. Not a perfect season by any stretch and been many bumps in the road. But no matter what happens in the playoffs, **** me I’m proud 🦐💙

Thought we played well first half, pretty poor second half… but that doesn’t matter now - into the lottery of the playoffs.

We’ll need to up our game for the next one - would like to see a couple of changes. Particularly Bonne in for Hopper - he looked a lot better when he came on.
Interesting viewpoint.
I thought just the opposite.
Hopper's head won all the punts forward, and Bonne didn't.
In fact, this time neither sub forward made the slightest impact.
Our defensive discipline and drilled tactics made all the difference. So, 1-0 to the previously much maligned management I would say!

I say this with the caveat that I am 4 cocktails deep on the P&O Iona, having watched on DAZN on my phone whilst we sailed away from Stavanger, Norway.

But I thought that was almost as good a 0-0 away performance as you'll see from us.

Won't win any awards for being free-flowing, and we should really have made our first half superiority count before a more even second half.....but ultimately, who cares?

They did exactly what they needed to do.

It was hard-working and professional, and we swept up the vast majority of second and third balls. Bar parts of the final 15 mins (including stoppage time), it felt like we were in control and never really in much danger.

We played the match, not the occasion, and the game management and ****housery was generally on point.

The playoffs are a lottery and we've given ourselves a chance!

Well done you Blue Boys!
I watched it just up the coast from you James, we’re in Bergen, off to Stavanger on Wednesday.

Up the Norwegian Blues!
