Of course Hooper could cut it in the prem. Do you see the goals he scores? He's one of the best finishers in the game at the moment. If he could get in the positions (no reason why he wouldn't) to score goals in the prem then he would score. Yes the spl is a poor standard but he's scored in the champions league (away in russia too, no mean feat), that proves he can cut it at the top level.

Do you see who he scores them against? If he could get in those positions in the premiership he will have a far better defender to deal with.

I personally think he will do ok for a league club but until he does it at the top level he is unproven.

Hooper was due to be called into the England team for their friendly against Sweden. But misses out due to a hamstring injury he got during training. Gutted for him, been hoping he would get his chance to shine.

Mindblowing. He could barely get 90 minutes for us. :nope:

Unlucky Hooper, almost called into England squad, but for Hamstring injury..may still get a chance in the future. The boy has done very well.Article below

Should have checked a few posts back, Ricey beat you to that news a few days ago!

No, he wasn't

Hooper was never given a chance...add him to the list of 'what ifs'

Yes he was. Every day in training Hooper had the opportunity to convince the manager that he was worth playing. If he wasn't able to do that in training, then why should the manager just take a punt anyway?

Read Kightly, read Hooper - neither player forced themselves into the reckoning while at Roots Hall. It's a travesty that the manager didn't see any emerging talent but, in both cases, neither did the fans for their greatest part. The reaction to both leaving on here at the time was distinctly one of unbotheredness. If you think that's not a word, it is now.

Hoops is being linked with Juventus now

Whilst I generally take a similar line when it comes to people moaning about players "not being given a chance" by all accounts Hoops was great in training which is what prompted Spencer Prior's much-quoted televised claim that Hooper was a better player than Freddy Eastwood.

Hooper did well in training, did well in his loan spells and did well in a fair few of his rare first team starts. I don't think you can really blame anyone other than the manager for a monumental **** up there, I'm afrad.

And I called it on here at the time

Some players seem to settle at some clubs and not others. They either fit into the Managers strategy or look like a spare parts. I would add Charlie MacDonald to that list
Played 26 times for us and scored 1 ! Played 111 times for Brentford and scored 40.

Yup. Gavin Tomlin scored sod all until he came here, now he's going to break some records

As did I, Beefy. And as has been said many times, apart from Fred, Hoops didn't really have quality players alongside him and was left in the role of support to the likes of Harrold and Paynter. Hardly any surprise he didn't really shine alongside them, although those who could, saw there was a decent player in there trying to succeed.

I remember sitting in the west stand one game and watching Hooper play. He had loads of movement and vision and looked the business. Always thought he would do well.

But nowhere near as well as he's actually done, presumably?
(I certainly thought he'd make it as a L1/2 player, even if not with us.Frankly though,I'm astonished at his progress since his time with us).
