Garry Richards

Director⭐🦐
Yet another player who couldn't break into the Tilson clique.

He has left at a time when what the squad needs is some big powerful players who can get at the opposition (something that was lacking against Barnsley).

Everytime team that comes to Roots Hall seem to have more bigger players than us and we can't compete with them.

Quote from Mr. Brush

"But with Che Wilson out and a number of suspensions coming up we are short in that area but we will be assessing some individuals shortly to rectify that. "

Surely there should have been replacements in place before Richards left.

The transfer window is nearly over and it looks to me like Tilson has settled for mid table.

I have a theory (though it is a silly one) perhaps Tilly and Brush don't like players who are bigger / taller than them!;)

Paynter gone, Ricketts gone, Richards gone, Spinner not replaced, Goater not replaced, L Clarke gone, Bentley gone, Collis not playing, Liptak not playing,

as i've said a number of times. tilly signs players but they get into the squad which means they aren't good enough to get in the squad which is fair enough. so why sign them in the first place. how many games did richard play for us? he was never given a chance and in my eyes deserved a chance especially for his size. our squad in so small and we offer so little from corners set peices etc. barnsley defence last night and not to mention their forwards were huge.

a comanding big centre back is needed so badly maybe more than a striker. we leak goals so bad. but with tillys lack of ideas and as mentioned clique i can't see it happening. even if we do sign a centre back would he even play him?

very worrying that we have barely any strikers, only centre backs. so much for all this movement in the transfer window.

What Tilson clique would that be?

I do agree totally with your theory however, and yes it's extremely silly.:p

How could they have sold Richards and kept Liptak? We are crying out for a big centre back yet Richards was purchased and barely was ever played. Tilly bought Liptak at the start of the season from Hungary and we have still yet to see him in the 1st team as we are told "he is not yet ready for English football" - for goodness sake, if he is not good enough to break into the team or the style of football he has been used to previously makes it difficult for him to adapt to playing here, then why was 50 grand wasted in bringing him to Southend as apart from being on the bench recently and a couple of friendlies at the start of the season, we haven't even seen the bloke yet but still he is here and Richards, who could have been a real asset to us has been moved on.

Personally, I just cannot work this one out.

Liptak wasn't expected to feature for at least 6 months. Thankfully Tilly and Brush can see a bigger picture than you and are building for the long term rather than the short term. Whether that will be successful or not, I don't know but its the right tactic.

....and you don't think that Liptak can be a real asset?

Well from what I have heard about his performances in the reserves so far it seems as if he has really struggled, I would like to see him play before having an idea how to respond to your question and how long it might be before that happens we will have to wait on and see won't we?

I think that Richards was a good player at this level and Tilson must have thought so initially to have bought him. To bomb him out to Gillingham after a couple of months does not make sense to me at all when we are literally crying out for that sort of player.

Liptak apparently doesn't understand some of the basics about defending, so i can't see him being risked in the first team yet.

Perhaps with Liptak its a language thing, does he speak English or is it just Hungarian. We have Bela Balogh on a seasons loan from MTK Hungaria who finished second in their top division last season, he is a 23 year old 6 foot 2 central defender and looks a very good player. Having said that his command of English is not that good and coupled with a few injuries has limited his apperances to a hand full of games. Perhaps if Liptak was paired up with Bela they could communicate pretty well, not sure about the other players though!

My understanding was that Richards wanted more 1st team football, which he was not guaranteed at Roots Hall. I can't see what the fuss is about him going. It's obvious he did not want to be here and has obviously not made the grade with his day to day efforts in training as well as on a match day.

Why do supporters think that they know the ability and quality of a player better than a professional manager who works with the player all the time?

Oh well I guess that computer games have made us all into Alex Ferguson!!!!!!!!

:confused::confused: Confused of Essex

Liptak played two games on loan at Stevenage recently. Would it not be better for him to be loaned out to a non league club like that where he would play regularly rather than get a reserve game at Southend every fortnight?

He started 4 of the 6 games he was there for actually.

As I keep stating, he played in 2 cup games for them which don't get listed on soccerbase, hence why everyone (unfortunately including the official site who should know better) thinks he only played 2 games in the time he was there, which is incorrect.

The difference being that we've signed Liptak with the idea of giving him time to settle, whilst you are expecting an instant return for a player who you've only got for a season. Regardless of who is the better player, our permanent move makes a lot more sense IMHO than your loan signing.

Didn't he play in midfield for them, rather than at the back?

Masters was only on the bench again :(

Thank you for correcting my error Andy. Didn't realise that was actually the case.

Indeed he did. I believe they thought he did quite well for them in that position as well.

Yeah, I don't get the Masters thing. Surely Tilly should've had some sort of guarantee that he got first team football for them, otherwise what's the point in sending him there. I don't see Taylor dropping Alan Julian, who has been their No1 for a little while, for sometime yet.

I have to agree with you there, although Bela was signed with a view to a permanent deal, he has played a fair number of reserve games as well and looked pretty good, he is only 23 so it could still happen.

No problem. I only know myself as I kept checking their official site for his progress whilst he was there. And I know a little about the Setanta Shield and FA Trophy.
