For those of you interested, the score was two nil to Southend when one of the floodlight pylons failed after 40 minutes ans the game was abandoned.

Just a few questions about our line up, perhaps some of you who know the internal workings of Southend could put me straight:
1) Why did Alex Woodyard not play?. He has had no game time since pre season, if we need him to play on Saturday it would have surely helped for him to have played for part of the game tonight.

2) Why did Straker not play?. He has had little time on the field in recent weeks.

3) Why did Luke Chambers not play?. He has not played for a couple of weeks because of a ban, this would have been a good opportunity to get up to speed again.

4) Where was Graham Coughlin?. Another one would could have done with some game time. Was not even on the bench, unsure whether Mr Sturrock or the youth team physio Luke Fisher was giving the orders from the sideline.

Some positives from the game, good to see Louis Baucott and Jack Paxman who are both on development contracts play tonight, Baucott scoring a rare goal.

We are short of money - why not play this at Roots Hall with tickets a few quid each - the lights would have stayed on plus a couple of hundred through the gates?

Probably because we cannot afford any more injuries!

Looking at the trialists last night, there were some interesting names:

McAllister we know all about (ex Sheff Weds. and Shrewsbury so knows Luggy and Coughlan)
Lombilla is a French lad who was once signed by Internazionale (although never played for the 1st team)
Onwubiko played for Billericay last season
Tiffoney is a young Scottish full-back, currently playing for Ayr United

Derek Murray was the other one - can't find out anything about him though!
