Friends of the earth sticking their noses in!

I couldn't resist on getting my point on there.

I think SKIPP's points are very weak indeed. Three of their points revolve around car usage.

My point below:

"It is 0.4 miles from Prittlewell Stn to Roots Hall (8 mins walking) It will be 0.7 miles from Prittlewell Stn to Fossetts Farm Stadium (13 mins walking). Surely that will not mean a noticeable increase in car usage?"

From the Facebook page: "Southend Football Club is required to re-submit its planning application to move to Fossetts Farm due to running out of time on the original planning application. This application is due for consideration on Thursday 14th July 2011, so it is vital that anyone who wishes to comment does so ASAP."

Can't see them getting too much support over the next day or so.

I'd like to comment ' I think its a jolly good idea this Fossets Farm malarkey'
Hope that helps

Some people here are making their comments more appealing to the casual observer by the post. All they have to do is provide a link to this page and add "Just look at the ignorant views and petty insults of those supporting the Fossetts Farm development."

If you can't write any consrtuctive criticisms of their objections, then, just for 24 hours or so, keep your gob shut and fingers away from the keypad.

Latest from the group opposing the FF move:

Unlike the Council, we are honest enough to admit it when we have something wrong. After reading the Echo this morning, it would appear that we were provided with incorrect information regarding the airport station and we are pleased to learn that the station will in fact be open to the general public.

However, it does not alter our opinion concerning the proposed new Fossetts Stadium. We still believe the new stadium is a mistake on environmental grounds. We still back the Friends of the Earth view that it will increase traffic congestion and result in more fans having to use their cars to attend games. We cannot honestly see how the Airport Station will help; the obvious route on foot from the station to the stadium site is long and for pedestrians dangerous. The Roots hall stadium is currently served by three mainline stations with Prittlewell Station only minutes away and many buses stopping outside. Importantly the present location allows families and those who cannot afford to run a car to attend matches as they have done for generations.

Furthermore, in our opinion the Sainsbury’s store proposed for the Roots Hall site will have a long term detrimental effect on the local economy and environment.

We don’t oppose a new stadium; we just think that the club should redevelop the Roots Hall stadium site. Importantly the present location allows families and those who cannot afford to run a car to attend matches as they have done for generations.

It should be noted, that the new stadium will probably never happen anyway as despite selling his and the clubs soul to Sainsbury’s Ron Martin and his companies are financial basket cases that don’t have the money to build a new stadium (or even three quarters of a stadium) on any site. Unless of course Sainsbury’s formally take control of the club and rename it ‘Buy One Get One Free United’. However, if that happens the club really is doomed as every part of Sainsbury’s has to make a profit, and football clubs are financial black holes.

Please note this is not a SKIPP campaign, we are expressing our opinion on a matter which would have a major impact on our town. If you don’t agree then please express your opinion, unlike the council we believe in democracy and will not suppress opinions which are contra to ours. In addition the guide to using the Council’s planning application system works whether you wish to object or support a planning application, so if you support the stadium application then please use the guide and register your opinion, like we said it is democracy that is important to SKIPP.

Lastly kindly remember this is a community page and please keep your comments civil.

I wonder if they would be willing to pay for that?

One of the other points they make is that Roots Hall is serviced by 3 major stations. Meaning they are taking Southend Central in to account, which it is actually a longer walking distance to Roots Hall, than Prittlewell is to the proposed stadium.

How about people that live nearer the new stadium? Say if they live in Shoebury, thats an extra 1 mile they won't have to drive every week.

The only point that is pretty much spot on in their "statement" is that Ron's companies don't have a pot to wee in, but we all know that anyway.

i love the fact they named and shamed "Scott Peters has had his post remove for failing to comply with this one simple rule." lol
