In terms of points this season , our 5 Friday home games have yielded less on average than the other 22.

5 Friday Home games ( won 2 , drawn 2 , lost 1 = 1.6 points per game )
22 other league games ( won 11 , drawn 5 , lost 6 = 1.73 points per game )

We have however played 3 of the current top 4 at home on Friday nights.

Stats eh , who'd 'ave 'em !

Would also add that should we win on Friday , our home Friday average points per game would increase to 1.83 ( above average ) !!!!!

I do think we've overdone it with the Fridays this year. Two or three would make it a novelty and something to look forward to, six is too many I do agree with that.

However I still prefer a Friday.

Article now up at http://www.aas-fanzine.co.uk

Me too, brought up on Friday night football and despite difficulties getting to games I have to say I still prefer it. Satudays free to go shopping with Mrs Shallow and.....................hmmmm

weather looking poor for this friday night but ok on saturday just had to be i suppose and after a few tired looking players on tuesday at daggers an extra days rest and to play on saturday would have maybe been a good thing

There are many other factors which should be taken in to account if analysing stats. It is widely accepted that a winning team gets bigger gates. Every one of the 6 Saturday matches (bar the opening day of the season), the preceding home league match was a win. Every one of the 5 Friday matches, the preceding home league match was not a win. The Friday match before Christmas was on a traditionally bad week for attendances and as already stated the York match skews the figures somewhat. Generally, our Friday night matches have come when we have been in our lower positions in the table.

It is a shame that the Friday night matches were largely lumped together (three consecutive home league matches) but there is more to it than simply doing the basic sums.

Agree, Mick. I should have said "more meaningful".

If the only games people can make are Saturday afternoons at 3 then it's a good job we're not a Premiershite side.

My Brother in law and Sister in law are Toon fans and they were saying that Newcastle average three Saturday 3 o'clock kick-offs a season as most fixtures are moved around to suit the TV companies. They have kick offs at 12:30, 15:00 and 17:00 on Saturdays, 14:00 and 16:00 on Sundays, 20:00 on Mondays, 20:00 on Tuesdays and the odd Friday at 20:00.

At least we know our games are at 15:00 on Saturday or 19:45 on Tuesday or Friday, (apart from the one just moved to Monday for Sky :winking:).

Personally I love Fridays, leave work travel to the game have a pint or two and a pie before the game, couple of pints after and all day Saturday free to do my gardening, shopping and play sport in the afternoon.
I can understand Tuesday evenings being a problem for school age children, it being a school night, but no school on Saturday.
I also understand it can be a bit tight for people getting back from London but I thought that was why we moved to 19:45 from 19:30 KOs, quite a few shows at the local theatres are now 20:00 curtain up instead of 19:30 for this reason; perhaps we'd be better with 20:00 KO's?

Friday nights are the reason I havnt had a season ticket for the last two seasons, I work Friday nights so cant make them, hopefully if we get back into league one they will knock Friday nights on the head.

I'm coming back to Essex this weekend and leaving Oxford at 3pm after picking the kids up from school. Now I'm going to have to hope and pray that the traffic doesn't mess it up for me as I want to go to the game. Now if this was a Saturday game then they would of had two extra bums on seats as I would of taken my kids but I'm not taking two 5 year olds to a Friday night game.

Personally I don't like them and want to see more Saturday matches next year. When I go to games I tend to bring about 4/5 of my mates with me so they have lost out on that 3 times already this season because I haven't been able to make the Friday night but could of made the Saturday.

I am shocked you actually have 4 or 5 mates:winking:

I was thinking this the other day. It's just too much of a ask to come down from London on a Friday night and run the gauntlet of the train companies in trying to get back.
One or two a season is fine but we play too many. Weekends are for beer and skittles - beer on Friday and skittles on Saturday, followed by more beer of course!

I think the timing of Friday night games is important.

They are great in the summer months when it is still warm and dry but a less good idea when it is cold, dark, wet and miserable as we'll get fewer people in.

We however seem to play most of our night games in the winter. This is stupid.
