Quote[/b] (TMWLT @ Nov. 02 2006,13:24)]Its most amusing to see on this forum, the minute someone slags a player, then they are jumped on,by everyone else, the problem i see, is this, i would say the average age of the posters on here is 25

. therefore, they cannot stand it if someone one here expresses a dislike for one of the players
It's not a bad point, although (and despite being sadly some way over average age) I've just never thought there was ever much point in slagging a player off during a game.  It's hardly going to help the team win, is it?

Take Tes Bramble, for example.  He could be the laziest sack of sh*t you've ever seen on a football pitch, but if he scored the goal in the last minute that made us win, then would it matter?

But what if the fans had moaned so much that Bramble thought "sod this", feigned injury and got subbed for (say) Tony Richards (who clearly couldn't score in a brothel)?  Southend might then not win...

Perhaps it's a bit far-fetched.  But perhaps only a little.  I've just never liked seeing people who barrack the players at the ground.  If someone came into your office every day and said "you're sh*t", it wouldn't make you work harder.  If anything, it would just make you look for a new job a lot harder.

As for coming on here to slag off players, I have no problem with that... provided that the view is backed up.  Saying "Maher is sh*t" isn't an opinion, it's just an insult.  Saying "Maher is sh*t because..." and then explaining why is fine, though.  That's an opinion, and that may lead to a debate.

On the Zone, we actively encourage debates; it's just insults and abuse we won't tolerate.

And here is where the topic should be closed! Don't think anyone can disagree with this view. When I'm at a game, no matter how much I want to shout out obsceneties to players who I feel aren't pulling their weight, I resist the urge. Getting behind the team gives them confidence to push on and play better; shouting out "Maher, you c$£t! Pull your finger out of your a!$e", as I heard against Hull, is not right.

Of course everyone has a right to slag off players if they want. Freedom of speech, £22 for a ticket and all that. I'm just saying that I don't think it's the right way to go about things. And by all means, slag players off on here. But back up your opinion with a valid reason and some evidence. Be constructive. If it's uncouth and has no basis, then I have no time for it.
