FREEDOM TO ABUSE PLAYERS

TMWLT

Its most amusing to see on this forum, the minute someone slags a player, then they are jumped on,by everyone else, the problem i see, is this, i would say the average age of the posters on here is 25
rock.gif
and therefore they have come through a very pc correct society mainly thanks to mr bliar and his goverment, and are of the ilk where everyone is equal and no one wins and no one loses. therefore, they cannot stand it if someone one here expresses a dislike for one of the players, such as someone like wiggy, fortunately, we still live in a free society, and everyone still has a opinion(mind you for how much longer I dont know!!) when you are paying upto £22.00 to watch in some cases ie tuesday at home, or leicester away or qpr away, then you have every right to slag, its been said on here many times that football is competing against many other things .so if the product aint right then feel free to moan.

Unfortunately, Dave, the inability to abuse players (verbally rather than sexually) goes back much longer than the invention, if that is what it was, of the PC society. I remember years ago, I think it was at Wigan in Andy Edwards debut game, a young fan, probably aged about 16 or 17, rightly abusing a woeful performance by Roy McDonough and being turned on by four or five fellow fans who inflicted a rein of blows on the young fans face. Their "reasoning" was, and I almost directly quote, "that they came to watch Roy play his heart out for the club, and they didn't want him upset by being slated."

So, people have always turned on fellow fans for disagreeing with them. I just guess in written form, rather than verbal or, as in the case above, physical form it just seems more apparent.

Say what you want mate. You pay your money your entitled. Just beware that on this site you CAN be slated for not putting grammer in your posts. Everyone isn't like that mate and don't be put off using the forum which to be honest is a great forum and you can get info from here that doesn't always make the OS

It's not the slagging off of players that gets my goat. It's the  inept way in which it's done sometimes.
Comments such as 'he was crap' ..... 'he's a complete bell end' and 'he's just too short' should justifiably be slated just for the way in which they are made.

Im all for reasoned debate about a players ability, or lack thereof, and will respect anyones opinion of a certain player, but when a comment slating a player is made up of perhaps three, four or five derogitory words without any reasoned explanation as to why that person has those views then I reserve my inaliable right to jump up and down like a demeted fool, stamp my feet and post an equally derogitory reply in return

What about only 3 words ?

TMWLT, you've got the right to say whatever you want, mate.

However, if what you say is b******s, then I have the right to point that out to you!

Wiggy's last post was calling for the removal of Steve Tilson. She had the freedom to do that. We had the freedom to point out our objections.

There's no conspiracy here, just debate.

absolutely. it's always amused me that those that are slated for slating players or just posting complete b******s start jumpimng up and down like a bunch of poncey hairdressers when criticised. If you can't stand the heat etc. And by the way, I'm 53. It's got f%&k all about being PC and Tony Blair although I usually blame the useless c%&t for everything.

PS whatever happened to Ray Parlour ?

re ray parlour, it was to do with agreeging terms, it was so close, that i stil lfor 1 was gutted it didnt go through, especailly if you look at our midfield now. the package was sold to him on the basis, of the days required to be at southend similar to the goat, ie only twice a week, but for whatever reasons, it got turned down

great pity. Just the sort of player we need. Is there any chance of a rethink with a bit of extra cash? Romford lad, Is he still with Middlebrough?

It's not a bad point, although (and despite being sadly some way over average age) I've just never thought there was ever much point in slagging a player off during a game. It's hardly going to help the team win, is it?

Take Tes Bramble, for example. He could be the laziest sack of sh*t you've ever seen on a football pitch, but if he scored the goal in the last minute that made us win, then would it matter?

But what if the fans had moaned so much that Bramble thought "sod this", feigned injury and got subbed for (say) Tony Richards (who clearly couldn't score in a brothel)? Southend might then not win...

rock.gif

Perhaps it's a bit far-fetched. But perhaps only a little. I've just never liked seeing people who barrack the players at the ground. If someone came into your office every day and said "you're sh*t", it wouldn't make you work harder. If anything, it would just make you look for a new job a lot harder.

As for coming on here to slag off players, I have no problem with that... provided that the view is backed up. Saying "Maher is sh*t" isn't an opinion, it's just an insult. Saying "Maher is sh*t because..." and then explaining why is fine, though. That's an opinion, and that may lead to a debate.

On the Zone, we actively encourage debates; it's just insults and abuse we won't tolerate.

Matt
