Freddy turns down Plymouth.

If Freddy wanted to come here and Sturrock wanted him I don't see wages as a problem. Not that we'd pay what he's on, but if Freddy really does want to resurrect his career and wanted to do it here, then I'm sure Coventry would be happy to cancel the remainder of his contract for him to sign here on a free.

It all comes down to whether Freddy wants it, and whether Sturrock wants it. If both are a yes then I see no real problems.

Cant see Freddy doing a lot before the summer if he is on £9k a week. Why would he want to cancel that contract unless he is paid off.

All depends whether he wants to play football again and wants that football to be here really. If he's been on that wage now for a good 4+ years then he can't be doing too badly on the finance side, it's all down to whether he wants to play football, and if Sturrock wants him here, I see no better place to reignite that career.

I know people say he's overweight and not enjoying it, but if we got him down here on a 6 month contract (with a year option) on 1k a week I definitely think it would be worth the risk, and he knows the fans would adore him. To be fair that's a huge wage cut, but if I was him it wouldn't be about the wages at this stage in his career.

That'll still be the case in the Summer though. No way would anyone walk away from that kind of deal.

All depends how much value they have on money really. If it was me I'd certainly give it great consideration. If I needed the money then sure, but I'd rather get 6 months playing action than have to train demotivated for another 6 months just to pick up a pay check.

The thing with Freddy is the same as the rest of us, maybe just a little more extreme. He needs to feel valued, he needs to be important. At Southend he has that valuation (maybe not so much importance, but at least valued). At Wolves & Coventry he's just another player. Bring him back here and I'm confident he'd get it back together and start training properly etc.

But again, he can have all that in the Summer. Between now and then he can pick up a quarter of a million quid for himself and his family - the sort of money he'll never earn again.

I doubt he'll be kicking his heels until then. He's in a similar position to the one that Matt Paterson was in here. The Club want to move him on and get shot of his wages but no one will take him. As time goes on the Club has to increase the percentage of his wages that they'll be willing to pay whilst he's out playing for someone else. Come January I'm sure Eastwood will be out somewhere playing football with Coventry paying most of his wages. It's madness to think he'd chuck that in to take a six month contract here or anywhere else.

Pretty much what I was going to post word-for-word so thankyou for saving me the trouble!

When you say he can earn £250,000 between now and the summer, I guess that puts it into perspective. That's a whole lotta money for 6 months training.

I agree what that.....realistically, why would he walk away from that money. Good luck to the fella.

One thing I do find funny (not a dig at you Angell Delight) is that when this same discussion came up about Matt Paterson for us in the summer, people were like 'he should take a wage cut to leave and get first team football'. And he is only on 2k a week so even more reason not to take a wage cut. :winking:

Agree 100%.

Freddy needs a League 1 club with a decent budget. I'd be looking at one of the Sheffield Clubs.

If we get promoted into league one at the end of the season then i could see a deal being done, but i very much doubt freddy would join us in league 2 or any other league 2 club.

Im all for imprvong the team but would he upset the apple cart?

Why doesn't he just come back? I would never go to Plymouth

He could get us plenty of these:

When/if he's offloaded at the end of his contract at Cov & if Luggy fancies taking him I would like to think we could be in with a shout just because of the support he knows he would get from us and the familiarity, close to his roots etc.etc. Money is'nt always the first consideration when seeking a career resurrecting move.

We all know he wants to play again at Roots Hall and this is a perfect opertunity for him to get back on top of his game. I would love to have him back here and it would be a good money making opertunity for the club. How many shirts will it sell and how many extra tickets will they sell? My opinion is a fair few more as Eastwood is a brand name when it comes to Southend United.

I'd rather have kightly back ;-)

I'd rather see Lee Barnard back here than Freddy Eastwood. Where-ever he ends up, his past reputation as a marksman will mean nothing. He will have to work harder than any other time in his career, to show he still has the determination and desire to succeed.

What's happened to kightly? He has gone on loan to Watford and hasn't played much? Is he still struggling with injury?

He's got nowhere to park his caravan now though!
