Freddy for Wales

I have a welsh grandmother....I think, my mum was born in Scotland and now I live in Japan so I could play for England, Scotland, Wales and maybe one day for Japan.

However, I would not sell my soul to any of these other countries. I am English and would only ever consider playing for England as this is where I was born and brought up.

I think it totally sucks when average players sell out and play for an inferior country just to get ineternational football. I hope Freddy doesn't play for Wales.

I bet, never in a million years, he considers himself welsh. International representation should be about the pride of playing for your national team and nothing else.

Agree 100% with this. Remember Vinnie Jones playing for Wales. What a farce. Mind you I'm not gonna be the one to tell him that. And 2 of my housemates are wycombe fans so Id like Freddy to keep Easter out the Wales side.

anyone reckon this could be really good?.. toshack comes down for the Col Ewe game... Freddy knows this and tries hard and bangs away a hattrick.. into the squad for Wales and scores for them.. we stay up and sell him for £5m!

cha-ching!

The Echo are reporting that the Welsh FA have found out that Freddy's grandfather was Welsh and are investigating the possibilities of an international call up!

This is not news. I mentioned this on 22nd March under the thread "Eastwood for England" which seems to have gone over everyone's head.

"Heard he was thinking of Wales (connection somewhere) not England. More of a chance of playing for them."

And the rest !

Oh be jesus, I would of thought with Freddy's background there would be more chance of a call up from the paddy's..

Oh well good luck to the lad, I doubt he will be an SUFC player long enough to see him capped for a national side though...

Only recenltly , so back further he'll have Italian or Egyptian ;)

Heck Wales is still international football , and they've been missing a decent striker . Why not (he says having a Welsh Grandfather :) )

OMG !! they'll have foreign players playing for the Irish Cricket Team next !!

Seriously though, if it raises his game or improves him as a player then I say go for it lad cos I dont think England is gonna happen. Arent most future England Strikers either playing for the U18's and then U21's before the call-up or they are playing for a big Prem side ?

All of a sudden we have a lot of closet Welsh people on the board! This is most worrying! Next we will find it is compulsory to be Welsh!!

In all the reports down here it says that Fred contacted the Welsh FA to look into his eligibilty not the other way round.

BBC sport page says the same thing, which throws a different light on it. There's a slight sense of melancholy in the thought of someone of Freddy's football talent, which is hundreds of times that any of us could muster, still having to go 'yeah, I'll never be good enough for England'.

Robert Earnshaw, on the other hand, had better watch his back.

I wonder if my little girl could play for Scotland as she was conceived up there 10 years ago? Does sperm count towards nationality?
