Franck Moussa

Well I dont think we are going to find out unless Chris Phillips has managed to purchase a load of cheap second hand phone taps from the former employees at News of the World! LOL I heard a rumour that Ron Martin is planning to enrich uranium in the dressing rooms during the close season and sell it to Iran - thats the real reason for the press black out!! Kofe Annan will broker a deal between RM and the Echo after the Euro Championships!

Yes, because good players will come inside to help bail out underperforming central-midfield colleagues; they will offer movement instead of being static; they won't let the game pass them by but will get involved. Think of England's best midfielder over the last decade. Before moving over to the US he was a wide midfielder, who regularly contributed inside.

I don't recall Scholes being a wide midfielder until Sven played him on the left to accommodate Lampard - and I don't believe he's ever moved away from Oldham either.

I never actually thought it was all that great to be honest but I will always be grateful to him for puttin the ball in the col ewe net.

I'm with you on this, Matty. He seemed to be a bit of a passenger in the games I saw him in. I remember a Friday night game where he scored a cracker late on, but I never saw him as a hugely influential or talented midfielder. But then again, I didn't particularly rate Derek Hall either.

Perhaps the finer points of the midfield game pass you by?
(Agree with you about DH though).:winking:

The finer points of most things pass me by, but I always felt he was a bit of a lightweight for us and he never particularly impressed me. But as he's been making a living in higher Leagues than ours for the last few seasons, then fair play to him - he must have something more to his game than a sensible pass.

He can spot a forward though.

Bit harsh to be expecting a kid to run midfield or to be fully physically developed. They are things which come with time.

A sensible pass is basically all Maher had btw.

It's a harsh world out there! I know you were/are a fan of The Moose and though I like a midfield player who can keep possession and look to play in and off a forward, I am genuinely curious to know what it is/was about Moussa that made him popular with some of our fans. From what I am inferring from your point above, it seemed that it was about his potential rather than his actuality.

Nonsense. And btw Shrimpero is quite right about Scholes being a better midfield player than Becks.

Not for England he wasn't.

That wasn't meant as a slight, but more showing what can be achieved if you can pass the ball.

The Moose was technically very good - there was a volley he scored, against Walsall I think, that was to die for. He's one of probably a handful at most of players post Maher/Gower who could pass the ball. In a team full of donkeys in midfield with the touch of a rapist like JFC and Alan McCormack, it made a pleasant contrast to have someone who could kill a ball dead with their first touch and play a measured pass.

In your opinion maybe but not in mine.FWIW,I saw some of his games for Real Madrid. He was past it even then.Great freekick but not much else.I like him as a bloke but he's hugely over-rated as a footballer(typically by Brits).

What on earth have his appearances for Real Madrid got to do with how good he was for England?:nope::nope::nope:

Moussa still a free agent. I'm not usually one for welcoming old players back, but is this REALLY out of our reach? I can't imagine he'd command massive wages, and these days we seem able to sign all sorts. I suspect there's a few decent players in the lower leagues who are holding out to see what happens at Portsmouth.
