Francis - what's up with him?

Defensively, Lewis at his best was only marginally better than Francis at his worst.

In an attacking role, I'd give Lewis a run for his money as he can't enter the opposition half without getting a nose-bleed.

Surely if he was as good as some on this board still believe:
a) he'd be playing regularly in our first team, or
b) he'd be playing regularly in Wycombe's first team.

By my reckoning he'll be playing in some Blue Square South's first team in a year or so.

Rubbish.

The reason Hunt hasn't been playing regularly for Wycombe is because he was injured in pre-season. He made his comeback in the reserves on 14 October and has since played the last two league games for top of the table Wycombe. He is currently on course to be playing league one football next season.

Hunt was for my money a far better defender than Francis, although Francis was more flamboyant going forwards. If Hunt was still at the club, he'd have easily replaced Francis again, whose form has been woeful this season.

Sankofa is Franno's competition, but unfortunately due to the slightly strange decision not to replace Richards and Liptak's places in the squad, I'm sure he's more thought of as back up to the centre backs at the moment.

I wonder what happened to the centre back we were due to sign in August........

Might be wrong but I thought Hunt had had an operation during the summer and was coming back from that which was why he hadn't featured.

Lewis hunt as competition? You have to be kidding.

Perhaps competing for most shocking performances.

Not lloking to disagree again but Lewis Hunt was in my book a decent defender. My main critism of him was his appauling attacking play - something which Francis offers in abundance.

Sorry but Hunt went down to reserves for us & won Senior Cup last season - did you see him celebrate as captain of the side - he was going even then........

Also he didn't retreat back at all quick enough, hardly ever recovered from going forward etc...

Erm, JCR for Barnsley - the goal against us!?!

Hunt may have been at fault there but it was a wonder strike by JCR. I don't think one incident is enough to compare Francis and Hunt anyway. My opinion that Hunt was superior defensively is based on seeing them both over a longer period. Hunt had better positional sense was less prone to concentration lapses than Francis.

3) If the play is over the other side of the field the right back job is to tuck in and cover the immediate danger (the centre). He only goes back to right back if the play switches sides in my book. At least as someone who has played right back a fair bit that was what I was always told.

Indeed.

When the winger or whatever pulls out wide and the full back doesnt go out there to cover him its easy to accuse him of not marking, however if he went out there he would leave a huge gap to be exploited.

The reason they stay central is theres far more chance of the ball being played centrally than picking out the wide player so its not worth covering him when the ball will very rarely get that far out.

As for Francis he has been poor this season, but he looked far better against Leeds.

I dont agree it laziness as said in this thread, more of a lack of confidence. Hopefully he can build on the Leeds game.

Hunt was an extremly useful player he was useful to make Francis think I can be alot better then the plank at right back and to work hard to get back into the team without the useful Mr Hunt Francis has been able to coast

Francis had another poor game at Tranmere, whilst Hunt was part of a back four that kept a clean sheet and scored the winning goal for Wycombe. They look a good bet to come up to join us in Leage One next year, and we can see what we let go - a very useful and versatile player. And you know Harrold will score against us don't you?

Harrold? Christ he would ferking love to poke one in and run a lap of the pitch giving it the biggun:D

I think that francis is one of our best players and defenders, without him where not very good, we havent got a decent replacement, hunt was no competition, sankofa is no where there his ability. His got a great cross, his quick, his good at tackling and heading. Nothing wrong with him, my fave player :) ...
And hunt scored because his in a lower division

Is this a serious post?! "without him where not very good" - thats a terrible sweeping statement to make about someone whose form has been pretty dire lately. I actually think Francis on his day is one of our best players, but this thread isn't about his ability, it's about his form - which lately really hasn't been anything to shout about.
