Fossets Farm - Statues?

Having been to Blackpool , Ipswich and Leeds and seen the statues they have outside the idea of one at the new ground is appealing. The problem would be who do you choose? Alternatively it would be nice to see lots of people commemorated in the walls of the stadium, like the designs in Bluewater. Carved granite/concrete in the walls. If Uncle Ron can't afford the fancy bits should we start a fund? :o

If we're talking statues to commemorate the life of Southend United FC then it can only be Oliver Trigg.

And perhaps a smaller one inside the main reception area of Sid Broomfield to remember in years to come of exactly where SUFC's modern era began.

I dont really know if this would work, we dont have a star as known as the other clubs mentioned

I agree that's why I thought a series of heads in the walls would make a better impression of the club.
We are not a one man team and never have been. Bill Garner, Billy Best, Anton O... (no I'm not going to spell it!), Peter Taylor etc.. Some are known outside the club but most live on in our memories and it is the journeymen players that have made us the club we are today. Garry Nelson had a valid point in his books, most players never make the big money or acheive their dreams but for 90 minutes they give their all for us.

Seconded. Roots Hall is unique in that is was built and paid for by southend fans, an achievement that I don't think will ever be repeated by another professional club.

Generally you only get satues of people who have passed on. Someone actually suggested Stan Collymore in another post and he was only with us 9 months :)

Was it Stan posting under a different name? He said in his autobiography the rebuilt South Stand should have been named after him because it was paid for by his transfer fee.

What about a wall with pictures of the fans too like they have at Stamford Bridge! Could do it instead of fans have different pictures of legends past and present!

A tri-hologram of Alvin Martin, **** Bate and Bobby Moore to remind us that no matter how bad things might get in the future they'll surely never be as bad as life under these three.
