Forwards for Next Season

Kendall and Walker have the energy to operate out wide. I, personally, think we are better off trying to find an off-the-peg #9 that can score, assist and be the difference maker by the time we get to the run in next season.

I don't know what we will do, I just don't see a need for us to have 5 strikers (unless one is a youth prospect)

Seriously, we need five forwards minimum.

The last time we didn’t use four forwards in a match was back in November and that was only because we had a man sent off.

Maher’s even used five forwards in one match as recently as this month.

If you go with just four forwards a single injury would then leave us short-handed and unable to bring on the usual fresh legs up front.

Just two observations, we were led to believe that any signing had to be a unanimous decision, not just Kevin. Danny Waldron was on the face of it was a good signing, but the rigours of full time football has found him out., as he has struggled to stay fit.

Waldron’s profile would have been an outlier if he’d have been successful. I’d say he was a hopeful signing rather than a good signing.

I don’t mind occasionally rolling the dice on a few of those types of players to see if you can beat the odds but that really needs to be for your fifth forward and not your main man.

As much as people want there won't be a massive turnover of the squad in the summer I expect 2-3 signings max as a lot of players are tied down to contracts, I believe Maher and co have a belief that with development, the current squad will be good enough to compete at the top end next season. As for the forwards I believe at least one of the current five will come good in front of goal in the near future. It's about building a squad overtime not getting rid of everyone each season.

To be fair to bonne he’s started 12 league games and has 7 assists and 1 goal he offers a lot more than scoring goals his hold up play is good and wins a decent amount in the air and I would give him next season but doubt we’ll keep him as Kendall hopper and Walker are contracted for next year

For the record I'd rather Bonne than Walker, he's useless. That being said you're saying Bonne's started 12 games and has 7 assists. Where all those assists from when he started as I think I can think of at least 1 or 2 which were off the bench. So for me, that's a bit of a non-stat for me. I believe he's played part in 26 games this season which makes 7 assists and 1 goal look even less impressive than it did before. If we have any ambition on playoffs next season, let alone winning the thing then all 5 of our strikers are out the door followed by pretty much most of the squad. Now that's not going to happen so we need some really shrewd signings in the summer to give us a chance. Another 'for the record', Daggers aside, Bonne's looked a better played coming off the bench IMO.

When looking at new strikers next season all our new recruitment analyst will have to do is a quick wikipedia search to see their goal return, something I think our current team forgot to do with our current strikers. Lets be honest, without GSM and some goals from Bim we'd be in some serious doo doo.

Here is a prediction i doubt will be popular, I can actually see Bonne being our top goalscorer next season. I think the guy has proper quality and with a refreshed push for promotion next season I think it might just be the right conditions to watch him fly.

Hopper is a fantastic backup for Bonne.

The other 3 are easily replaceable given their output, and that's not to say I would be disappointed if Kendall or Waldron were kept on as either backups or if they found some form.

I am of the belief that Walker is one of the most non descript run of the mill strikers we have ever had. I don't see him excelling at anything in particular

Interesting. I personally rate Walker. He needs a bit of composure but he offers the pace and directness we've been generally missing this season. Can play wide or slightly deeper, as he did against Fylde. Terrific run and goal in that game.

That's the trouble though this consistency thing. None of them do seem capable of putting a good run of goals together and again that consistency issue runs right through the side, reflecting our wider weaknesses, despite some recent improvements to be fair

I think Canterbury Shrimper could be right that one of them could come off suddenly, Who would have dreamt Gus would be amongst the leagues top scorers

Problem is though I dont see it really happening amongst our 5 strikers, i.e the 20 goal event. Maybe a combination of two scoring 10 or twelve each more likely, with the benefit of more pre season, development etc, especially if we sustain improvements going forward . Also with one or two more snappy signings and Parillon , maybe Appiah -Forson can only get better moving forward?

I would still explore the loan market more bravely though than we are used to

I sincerely hope that Parillon meets with all the high expectations from some on here, but wasn't many of the same people singing the same praises towards Kendall, Appiah and Moncur. I'll reserve my judgement until I see more of his performances.

hope your right Seaside Shrimp. Because the ones people putting down the most are the two i think will do well next season with an uninterupted preseason thats Bonne and Walker, now before anyone says Walker had a preseason and he scored a few goals too , it was interupted by an injury which set him back to stage one where his preseason was badly interupted
