Former Peterborough boss Dave Robertson set for under 21 job at Southend United

Shame it's not Maher but DR is a very experienced youth team coach and got the first team job at Posh because of the good work he had done with the youths. Good luck to him, sure he'll do very well.

I didn't want us to give the job to Maher just because he's Kevin Maher.

If he's a good coach and carries the correct qualifications then by all means go for it.

I saw Robertson get interviewed the day after his sacking and he seemed determined to get another crack at a manager's job but he probably needs to rebuild his CV a bit first. I think this is a great move and hopefully Maher can stick around and get some experience working with this guy.

On the basis that I know someone who knows him well. This is a disappointing appointment. I haven't heard good things about Robertson and his style with the younger players while he managed Posh.

I think that could be a decent appointment - he got the 1st team job at Posh based on his work at the academy, so why not allow him to come in and work with our young kids too? We're not appointing him as manager, assistant or even first team coach. Give the guy a chance!

Reliably informed the Academy at Posh was a success mainly due to Gavin Strachan who was a coach at the time. The bulk of the academy hated Robertson. You don't have to like your boss but this is a critical period for youngsters and I worry about this appointment.

Don't know anywhere near enough about his role at Posh to comment on whether he was popular or not but given that he got the first team job, he clearly did alright. Got a lot of experience in youth coaching and will be perfect for working alongside King Kev to develop him into a candidate for the role in the future, can't help but think that it's come a bit too soon for him.

Care to elaborate?

Because this was an excellent opportunity for the Club to do something to get supporters interested in the U21s, let alone from the fact that Robertson is unproven - and, so we're now hearing, unpopular. Maher would have been overseen by both Ricky Duncan and Phil Brown, so any lacking in qualifications that he may have had, would at least have been bolstered by two such experienced men.

Robertson can also be overseen by both Duncan and Brown. How can being unproven be used as a stick to beat him with, when the person you wanted to get the job is exactly that too?!

Robertson has obviously held a job at a much higher level than Maher, he will likely be less tolerant to "interference" by either man.
