footballs best period for you

*runs & hides behind the sofa :(

We can see you sneaking out!

You coming down to the "old firm" game then Glasgow, it promises to be a tough match I expect to see the tackles flying in thick and fast from our tiny midfield of Izzet and Perkins ably assisted by Hammond. This looks to be one of the liveliest derby games for sometime, could be 10 a side (or less!) after 90 minutes :)

Nope, I am actually down south, but going to a 40th birthday party weekend near Peterborough & haven't been allowed permission to disappear for the afternoon/early evening.

I will however be down for February's trip to the madhouse formerly known as Severalls.

2005 is going to take some beating for me. Of course there was the play-off final win against Lincoln, but so many of my other favourite Southend games were in that year:

The Show In The Snow against Shrewsbury
The LDV semi away to Bristol Rovers (thanks Mark Gower)
The away win at Macclesfield (thanks Alan McCormack)
Pretty much every game of the eight game winning run, with special mention to that sun-drenched victory over the Scum at Roots Hall

Plus I'm a big fan of Spanish football and my team Real Betis won the Copa del Rey, one of only three trophies in their 101 year history.

In terms of football as a whole, the late 50s/early 60s era that Firestorm alluded to has a lot of appeal. The lack of unpredictability in top flight football nowadays is such a shame; wouldn't it be great if the top division was like all the others in that any number of teams are capable of winning it rather than just the top four?

Well enjoy the party mate, and by the time the return comes around I think we will both be in the play off areas, as I said at the start of the season. Yes there are a few bits of Severalls mental hospital in one piece and very sad it looks too, quite spooky in fact. Perhaps we should refurbish the padded cells and restraining areas, there will be a few from both sets of fans who may need them!
