Finley Burns

Good move for the lad, will give him a chance to shine.

Don't think he's progressing at the rate they expected, he went on loan to Swansea previously and might have been a step too high. Hopefully he will shine in League One for Stevenage.

Went to Wigan Athletic vs Stevenage today. Finley was playing in a holding midfield position for Stevenage (looking at Transfermarkt he’s been performing in that role after playing at centre-back for 5 or 6 games at the start of the season).

I thought he found himself on the periphery of the game during the first half - apart from kicking off and initiating the restarts after Wigan’s two goals, he didn’t touch the ball until the 40th minute - which is odd in that position, but that probably had much to do with Stevenage looking for long diagonal balls out to the wide-men as he was constantly showing to receive the ball.

I was disappointed he wasn’t more dominant in the air; he had the chance to win a couple of contestable headers in midfield but didn’t compete at all.

He managed to get on the ball a bit more after the break, although one mis-controlled pass led to a caution as he attempted to win possession back. However, he managed a couple of interceptions and showed a real turn of speed to outpace a Wigan attacker and slide the ball back to his goalkeeper. He then managed to set up the winning goal with a square pass on the edge of the penalty area for Louis Thompson to arrow a shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

Stephen Humphrys was a late substitute for the hosts as they sought an equaliser, picking up a caution in stoppage time as he threw himself into a challenge.
