Films you've watched recently.

I did wonder how long it would take...

Haha - I rewatched it recently. Daisy Ridley really was badly miscast, far too posh for the role of a scavenger left on a desert planet. It was ok, but I don't think I'll be watching it a 3rd time.

Met a lot of scavengers from Jakku have you?

I thought she was fantastic, and the film was great.

The Invitation - bloke and new girlfriend get an invite to a dinner party at his ex's house but all is not what it seems. Good idea, but its so sloooowwwww. 6/10

Little Girl Blue - Janis Joplin documentary. Brilliant, and such a tragic loss. Typical rock/pop star story - loving the music and performing but was lost away from the stage, surrounded by hangers-on who led her down a bad path. 9/10

What bit, the young baby in clear distress or the over use of the F word in ever sentence? Mark Strong seriously needs to have a word with himself. A good actor wasting his talent appearing in a succession of gash films IMO.

The Cobbler - I'm not usually a fan of Adam Sandler but he is terrific in this film playing a serious role of a Jewish cobbler who inherits a shoe repair machine from a long line of his ancestors. The machine enables him to walk in the shoes (literally) of the shoes owners. Delightful film with a very strong cast including Dustin Hoffman. 9/10 highly recommended.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt2. Entertaining but predictable conclusion to the saga. 6.5/10

Life. True story of photographer Dennis Stock and his subject, James Dean. Glacially slow, but fascinating and beautiful. 8/10

Big Sur. Very good adaptation of the Kerouac novel, beautifully shot. 8/10

The (Allen) Iverson documentary. Really really good. Never realised how incredible he was at football before focussing on basketball.

What accent do most scavengers from Jakku have? Yorkshire? Devon? South Wales? I watched the film again on Sunday and it confirmed what I thought first time around - she was excellent.

I didn't hear anyone else on that planet speaking like they were fresh out of Swiss finishing school.....

It's a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I wouldn't let the accents of the leading protagonists bother you too much.

If she speaks like that in a kitchen sink drama set in Barnsley, then we can have a whinge.
