FC - Week 1

The General

The Mouse (*)
Good day folks,

Tomorrow sees the start of the FC campaign. I have a tricky league and have found Sky Blues in our league but has said that he doesn't intend on promoting but will be looking to finish 2nd so it all depends how the fixtures land and how his fitness is looking. I dont have him till the mid-season when i face him in back-to-back games so that thought can wait for a couple of months.

This week i have Level III OD mob Lower Standards CC and they have BOT Ladbrokes on Friday so im pretty sure they will be going all out to win this game (hows my luck eh!!)! Tomorrow is due to a sunny one in Essex so i'll be batting first and from past encounters, i'll be aiming for a draw and im sure we'll both take that!

AFC Wimbledon v ShrimperZone CC

Former cup winners and top division stalwarts are currently drifting through the divisons. We came across them in OD in Season 13 and now they appear in our FC league. Jon_Boy is a former England manager and now seems to have become a farm team for the England team with these guys in his ranks:

Jamie Tuckett - BT Rating=672,979
Graham Donnelly - BT Rating=280,533
Dylan Noble - BT Rating=380,982

I'm hoping they won't be playing! If he doesn't field these then we should be able to have it done inside a day. However after last season's OD muck up against Pudlington I won't be taking any chances so will field pretty much a full team.

Have the relegated team, Tioman Islanders, first up away on my least favourite pitch, dusty.

I have the better all round side though so looking for a winning start to the campaign. If i do well against these guys first place ought to be mine this year!

BATTY SHRIMPERS v Baggys Slackers

Home to the side that finished 4th last season. New record signing Leighton Lindop makes his debut, and with everyone obviously at Sublime, we're at full-strength.

I beat him with a full-strength side out last season, so should do the same again. Sunny today, and PC+H tomorrow in Essex, so looking to bat 1st, and bowl them out twice.

DIBS DIPPERS v lozzys losers

Mrs BB back in Level VI this season, and she starts with a home game against a side with a 16 man squad. Couple of 70k players, but Mrs BB should have too much for them. Same weather (obviously), so similar tactics.

A v Rah, a newcomer, but ranked above me and a few decent players, including one over 100k and 3 more over 60k. Will be tight.

Bugger.

BATTY SHRIMPERS v Baggys Slackers

We can tell you that Baggys Slackers won the toss and elected to bat. The pitch is looking quite cracked! A field day for the seam bowlers I would reckon on this sunny day.

Result for Mrs BB !!

DIBS DIPPERS v lozzys losers

We can tell you that lozzys losers won the toss and elected to field. The pitch is looking quite cracked! A field day for the seam bowlers I would reckon on this sunny day.

Hubbards Hills CC v Southend

Overs left today: 106
Adamlebbe 2-1-1-0
Healy* 3 (15 balls)

I suppose as a Southend fan, I should be moaning at my new £13m signing for not taking a hat-trick in his 1st over....

Midworth 10 (7 balls)
Last Wicket: Trueman lbw b. Lake 5 (FOW: 27/3)

Having looked through my opponents for FC and OD, I have decided I need to strengthen in the short-medium term . I am happy enough with the way my yoofs are developing and have a good core squad but some of my fringe players even within the starting XI just aren't up to scratch for the level i'm at.

I'm looking to buy some older guys who are pretty decent for my level, or do you think i should just stick it out and continue to develop the yoofs?

Not a good start to the season.

End of Over 27 (2 runs). General Stars: 78-3, runrate=2.89
Overs left today: 83
Hook 5-1-19-1
Sookram* 39 (53 balls)
Cavanagh 2 (8 balls)

Last Wicket: Waterhouse c. Timothea b. Hook 14 (FOW: 74/3)

Just lucky i won the toss and bat first, not that its doing much good. Nigh on £350,000 in the bank, so a good way to start the season!

Definitely worth padding out with a couple of older guys, you can pick up older strongs and superbs pretty cheaply to tide you over for a season or two. They won't have any particular resale value but should do a job for you. Example:

Des Saich (1326763)
Age: 34 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 12,842
Wages: £3,339 p/w

Stamina: feeble Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: abysmal Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: superb Consistency: competent
Fielding: feeble

Deadline: 19/01/2010 12:53
Current Bid: £26,000

Dunno what he'll go for but worth keeping an eye on.

Struggling to take wickets, but keeping the rate down.
