Favourite painting in National Gallery

To quote Art Brut.... "Modern Art makes me, want to rock out".

But you can't beat a bit of Van Gogh. See: A Wheatfield with Cypresses

On of my favourite painters...was lucky enough to visit L'Hermitage and see an absolutely tiny Van Gogh painting, called The Lilac Bush, just an amazing piece of art

Actually took my ten year old daughter here on Saturday; she loved Monet's Bathers at la Grenouillére;

Which is odd as we both tend to go for paintings with big bold vibrant colours, quite a simple pair I guess. One we both really liked was Bacchus and Ariadne, by Titian, although this picture actually doesn't really do the colours juctice...

I always spend a lot of time in front of The Hay Wain as well, love the detail.

All great paintings, I love the colours Titian uses. If you love the Haywain, you should go and spend a few hours visiting Flatford Mill, take a copy of the painting with you and compare the scene then with how it is now. Willy Lott's cottage is practically unchanged.

It changes all the time. But my current favourite is a Gainsborough - Mr and Mrs Andrews

A real conversation piece. Personally I like the way the couple look so relaxed in portraiture.

Normally I'm a sucker for Canaletto, but the works at the National are inferior to the ones in the Hermitage (which is exceptional if anyone goes to St Petersburg)

Yep, mentioned it earlier. The kind of place you need to put aside two places to do justice.

It's been a couple of years since I have had a proper walk through, but was able to pop by there quickly today as I was in the area for work. Headed straight for 'Whistlejacket' by Stubbs, which is stunning (a small picture on a website really can't do it justice)
