Agreed, but I think we all might have enjoyed a statement from Strauss along the lines of 'well you think we play the game with a fairly ordinary spirit, and now we're going to prove it.'

I'd have told Mr Guardian of the Spirit of the Game that, no they couldn't have a replacement. I'd have also referred him back to his 2005 whinging about the use of a sub-fielder for Simon Jones, who had a (test) career ending injury, and explain that I didn't want him to look like a complete hypocrite (its bad enough him looking like Dubya).

I wouldn't have even allowed Manou to keep as a sub-fielder, as it is a specialist position which requires the opposing captain's consent.

But then, my entire tactics for the Ashes would be to wind up Ponting as much as possible.

i was right up there but didn't make any changes for the 5th which screwed me over. thought it was a good concept but poorly done, money wasn't a constraint and transfers were too easy

Yeah i noticed that, at the start i thought i'd pick all the players i'd want and have to swop and change to get it all to fit, but i picked my XI and still had £1000 left over
