Over the years we have seen some big stars play out our place, on the way up , at their peak and on the way down.

I can recall Kevin Keegan (although listed as Geegan in the programme), Ray Clemence. Phil Neal, Bobby Charlton and I believe Gordon Banks was here for Chesterfield.

Other recollections ?

I remember an newspaper article by Keegan when he was at Liverpool....he said when he was at Scunthorpe the best away ground was Roots Hall because we had hot water in the away dressing room....professional footballers today don't know their born.

Quote[/b] (Firestorm @ June 07 2005,09:02)]Did we play Preston when Beckham was on loan there ?
Often wondered that myself and even went through some old programmes a while ago to see whether his name was featured. It wasn't but, as a loanee, he could have been a late arrival and been missed off the programmes altogether.

Can anyone else clear this up?

Peter Shilton for Derby in the Littlewoods Cup, 1987. We won 1-0, with Roy McDonough slotting a penalty past Shilts in front of the North Bank

I am sure that John Barnes actually made his Watford debut against us at Roots Hall in a competition with a brief life span called the Football League Trophy ( a bit of a forerunner for the LDV in its various forms). I think we may have lost 3 or 4-1 and Warren May scored a great o.g.

Chelsea played a pre-season friendly at Roots Hall a few seasons back - cant remember who played, but might have included Zloa etc...

(For my sins!) I own a copy of Beckham's autobiography, and it lists all of his appearences for any club in professional football, including during his loan spell at Preston and we are not mentioned at any point in these records.

So it appears that he did not play against us for Preston.

I also remember going to an FA Youth Cup game at West Ham about five years ago, when a young Glen Johnson scored all three goals against us.

I think I've asked this before on here, but seeing as Freddy Eastwood was probably on West Ham's book at the time, anyone know if he might have been playing?

Denis Bergkamp famously made his debut in an Arsenal shirt on English soil at Roots Hall; Ian Wright played that day as well. I believe two of football's less leading lights scored that evening in the Gooners' 3-1 win - Glenn Helder netted for the reds, and Dominic "The Lion from Lagos" Iorfa scored for us. Marvellous.

Does Stan Collymore qualify as famous, or just infamous?!

I remember thinking it was a pretty big deal when we signed Ronnie Whelan as well...

Morning - are you still determined not to get a season ticket mate? Even though you can clearly afford one and the club could do with the money.... and you'd be guaranteed a particular seat, first choice on tickets to cup games or limited availability away games etc...??

And Eric Steele kept a clean sheet - I saw the programme for that game the other day and the front cover was "Steele v Shilton"

Alas, yes.

For numerous reasons, I will simply not see enough home games to warrant a seaso' this season.

I'll be relying on you to get me the cup tickets, etc...
