Family Days!!

Brighton is an interesting one.

I would have gone with two mates but we assumed we couldn't get tickets. So we decided against going down for the weekend.

As it turned out we could have got a ticket but by that time most of the B&B's were booked up.

I'm not sure why tickets for away fans go on sale at such short notice.

we've filled out Layer Road ebery time I've been there, we only get 900-odd tickets.

Were you there for the 3-0? I could not move in the away end and we had half of the home end at the other end of the pitch.

yea i was there, i'm talking about the last trip we made there when we lost. we definetly didnt fill it.

what about using a train. its faster and cheaper than driving.

Faster? Definitely. Cheaper? Not at all - Luton is only 50 miles away from me and so costs about 15 quid in petrol to drive it. A train ticket on the day was £30, and I would have had to struggle through central London at rush-hour.

I feel that the problem with the Col u game (and brighton to an extent) was that as the tickets were going to be balloted to season ticket holders and with there being obly 20 % or less of the number of season tickets avaialable. people did not expect the tickets to be available. A number of seaso's go with a friend or partner , my wife and I chose not to enter the ballot as with a 1 in 5 chance of us both getting a ticket we did not want the problem of only 1 ticket between 2 . and we also felt that not being regular away travellers (3 or 4 away games a season) these sort of games should go to those who do attend more away games. Also those who were not season tickets seeing the 1000 tickets 5000 season tickets ratio did not expect them to go on general sale so made other plans.

Anyway this "proper fan goes to all the away games" debate has been done to death. I would be interested to see exactly how much effect on the team having 500 away fans as opposed to say 750 actually has. Note I said team not club, because financially there is no impact at all (compared to home games where every bum on a seat is a few bob in the pocket)

one your an idiot if you bought a train ticket on the day. there cheaper if you buy in advance. it was about £20. and i would rather go on the train in rush hour than sit on the m25 for ages.

But we did sell out our allocation, although as you have previously said some went on general sale. So if it wasn't as rammed as it was for the previous season that's probably because Col Ewe reduced the amount of tickets available for the away terracing.

Apart from cup games. Don't forget Southend get 45% of the gate receipts tomorrow night.

Has anyone got a home progamme handy from last season, that will show the away suppport at Colchester. I think Colchester gave us about 980 tickets last season & about 1,100 the season before that.

No need to call the guy an idiot.

Especially as £20 is still not cheaper than £15.

On the point of train prices and the ridiculous pricing policy of the BR franchises, does anyone have a link as to the best time to buy tickets and which ones to choose? The whole thing seems to be a complete mess. Even asking the guys at the station doesn't result in getting the best answer.

several weeks beforehand is the best time to book (although often the cheap ones for the weekend dont get released as they are dependant on when rail-works are being done. it's pot luck to be honest mate

I know they're cheaper if you pay in advance. Unfortunately not everyone can plan as far ahead to take advantage of these prices, especially for evening games.
Oh, and I didn't sit on the M25 for ages last season - I went on the A414 and didn't experience one traffic jam on the way there or back (a journey which only took an hour and ten minutes - about the same as it'd take on the train at that time of day)

yea your missing the point, i'm saying that why were we getting 10000 at home games but we couldnt fill about 700 at col u on a saturday and we haddent lost there for 16 years. if people really supported the club they would follow them through thick and thin.

I dont go to any away games, I guess I dont really support the club then !

Thats a very blinkered outlook to be honest, not everyone wants to go to every single game, theres nothing wrong with someone not going to away games, or only going to 5 games a year.

Id rather get average crowds of 10,000 with 50% of the people only going to odd games than get 4,000 hard core supporters....

i agree so would i but its when they turn up to big games and then never watch the club again because we get relegated or its a smaller match, thats what frustrates me.

Forget the kids I had more of a problem with the foul-mouthed joker who made a complete **** of himself. His two mates were embarrassed for him but he was too dumb to know otherwise.

Don't get me wrong. I took my 9 yo girl and didn't curb my language at appropriate moments - though Mrs ORM was none to pleased at reports :p

swearing and banter is part of the game and long may it remain sio. this foul mouthed dick should habve been thrown out. Fortunately we moved 2nd half.

I understand that, but hey if days like Saturday brought in 1000 kids and 100 go on to be Southend supporters its a worthwhile experience.

i never acknoledge the attendance because most people there arnt real fans. i acknoledge the fans that come to all matches no matter who we play. whether its man u away or hartlepool away.

That's rubbish - if they've paid the entrance fee and support Southend then they are fans.

I had an annoying little boy behind me who kicked my seat throughout the match. But they enjoyed the game and it boosted our attendance for the game. Not sure how many of these families actually return.
