Face up to it for once

yes this ia negative thread about a player
yes it is deserved
dont care that all you so called 'amazing, perfect supporters dont want to critise any players in the team' are going to give me any negative rep.

Matt Harrold please somebody must see even tho we were indeed out of our deph last year how poor a player at this level he is. Please look at this record for a STRIKER!

Years Club App (Gls)*

2003-05 Brentford 32 (2)

2004-05 Dagenham & Redbridge (loan) 4 (1)

2005 Grimsby Town (loan) 6 (2)

2005-06 Yeovil Town 47 (9)

I see a post from an individual on here about mark gower last year scored 9 goals and that doesnt make him a bad player! hes a winger! matt harrold is a striker!!

if you went to enough games last year away from home not just at roots. you will realise the matt harold is no where near the standard that is needed if this club is to progress. He can head a ball. Apart from that there is nothing. No control, no penertration goin forward. He not particuly quick and seems to fall over at every given opurtunity.

Its time to stand up and admit that sometimes the players we pay money to watch play for out town, the place we live, are not good enough and not worth the fee.

We will go no where with players like this

and your view on Paynter and Bradbury? And please dont say "Bradbury holds it up well"

bradbury can hold a ball up, can shoot when given the opotunity but for me just doesnt have enough zest to make us look dangerous going forward. Paynter im not going to judge, we havnt seen enough of him

i find your crusade against Harold quite sad to be honest. You are correct in pointing out he did little to impress last season but was not given much of a run in the team and your stats are also wrong as in most of those apps for previous clubs were in fact as a sub. But i'm sure as a reasoned and intelligent human being you will encourage him from the start of next season to do well and give him a chance to prove us all wrong.......... I won't hold my breath

Ive updated your stats to include sub apearances.

Years Club App (Gls)*

2003-05 Brentford 32 (2) 21 as sub

2004-05 Dagenham & Redbridge (loan) 4 (1) 2 as sub

2005 Grimsby Town (loan) 6 (2)

2005-06 Yeovil Town 47 (9) 17 as sub

Your rants against Harrold are very passionate...some would say envious.

Sure Harrold was less than impressive last year in the few games I saw him, and true enough he didn't look like a major goalscorer, but to launch a one man crusade against him is hardly fair. As is he proved an adequate utility player who was obviously lacking match time. Comparitively he looked less impressive than Hooper, but seemed to create more by his presence, and compared to Bradbury at seasons end (Bradbury pretty much fell apart last few games, Southampton was the worst performance i've ever seen by a pro footballer) he was miles better.

Honestly though last season he showed no signs of fitting into the team as a player. His skills were never going to be suited to playing with a struggling midfield and a partner up front who liked to sit deep. As is I agree his presence last season on the pitch was a waste of time.

On the other hand, this season he would be partnering a different kind of striker (assuming MacDonald) and its far too early to comment on what effect and role he will take this season. Personally i'm going to give him till November to carve himself a position, and wish him the best in that attempt, as hes a hardworking player whose shown hes willing to improve (anyone notice the improvement in his first touch come end of season or was that just me?). He'll never be a prolific striker, but if we can get at least one more goalscoring midfielder that will not be an issue. If he yet again finds himself in a team struggling for goals he won't be getting game time.

Best of luck to the lad,

That is your opinion AS. I take you have had numerous scout reports or you have seen the boy play at all of those clubs and seen a number of performances, taking into account that not all of those appearances are starts and also what else he contibuted in terms of passes completed, assists, tackles won, the list is endless. It is a very hard thing to do, scout performances accurately and i hate to say it you obviously have no idea what goes into it.
Your opinion is so hard to accept without a valid argument, simply saying here are his stats, he's a **** striker is ridiculous. T & B had the boy watched numerous times and he impressed, he is learning his trade and obviously has potential, although it is clear to see he is not a striker that is likely to bang 20 a season. striking is about partnerships, Harrold and Eastwood didn't work, however dare i say it a Harrold/Paynter and Foran/Macdonald partnership wil do well. If he doesn't cut the mustard he will be dropped by the mangement and rightly so, but to criticise without facts is just ridiculous.

Most of the stats you display for Harrolds past were from when he was 18-20, hardly a time in a players career you would expect to see huge goals, and if you did we wouldnt have been able to buy him.

If you check Paynters record its not impressive either.
You say Harrold has no control, neither has Paynter.
No penetration going forward, neither had Paynter.
Not particularly fast, neither os Paynter.

Not worth the fee ? He was a fraction of what Paynter cost.

Now you dont seem to judge Paynter so viciously so dont be surprised if people take your criticisms to be anything other than a vendetta against Harrold.

Come on, what happened, he steal your shoes or something ?

OK answer these questions in a Yes/No kind of way.

Ahem.

Can he head it?
Has he physical presence?
Has he pace?
Has he good feet?
Has he TWO feet?
Has he any footballing attributes at all?

Can he head it? Yes, sometimes. WBA goal.
Has he physical presence? Yes,sometimes. (Norwich/Burnley games)
Has he pace? Yes. Slow pace.
Has he good feet? They are lovely.
Has he TWO feet?
Has he any footballing attributes at all? He can shake a defence up late in the game.

As Ive said elsewhere, lets give him a chance at a level more suited to him for a team thats actually able to compete in the division without conceding 3 goals every game...

He proved that as a player to bring on he can be useful, lets see if he can be more so next season.

OK let's put it this way. Let's pretend you are Efe Sodje and have been up against thet Fredy Eastwood bloke all match. he goes off and who would you prefer to relace him ( as you are a defender?).

Paynter or Harrold?

Oh come on, Sodje wouldn't have been able to cope with either.

Personally Harrold as Paynter is a very good player, but Harrold is also a good player, he has different attributes, you can't really compare those two.

Just read that correctly. I'd actually go for Paynter, but I dont think Harrold is a bad league 1 player. Paynter definately has more potential though. he is bloody big lump with a fair amount of skill.

I read this in last seasons Doncaster v Yeovil programme written by a Doncaster supporter:

"...when we played them last season at Huish Park, they were one of the best teams I'd seen all season and deserved to beat us. Although he moved to Southend, Matt Harrold was a real key player for them and will go very far."

Of course anyone is entitled to have a view on his performances for us thus far but it seems unfair to use bald statistics from his previous clubs when clearly in some people's opinion, including our managers, he is a useful player.

Let's see how gets on next season perhaps with more of a run in the team than he got last year.

We will see if hes good enough, he is still very young, he can score goals, just needs more experience, I personally dont agree that he will go onto score to many for us, but im willing to let him have a go.
