Exploring The Myth That We Are A Big Club

I don't think I've ever read anyone on here seriously say that we are a big club. Everyone knows that we're not but I'd rather people have an optimistic view of us as a club on the up with the potential to grow and be something than see us as only ever being able to be a lower-league club. Why shouldn't we aspire to be more? Why should we have to see our future as being rivals with the likes of Orient and Dagenham, even if that is what it transpires to be? I want more for my club. That is part of being a football fan.

Please excuse me if I say that I feel those are the best words I have ever seen written on this board . For me it epitomises what we are , what we hope to be , and what we will continue to be even if our hopes don't come true .

Is it too much to hope that that post can be saved somehow ? Personally I would like to see it commemorated on a plaque in the entrance to the new Stadium because for me it is that spirit that carries this Club and we should never forget where we came from , no matter how successful we become .

No one has been, but TMWLT seems intent on constantly reminding everyone that we're not anyway.

We wont become a much bigger club in terms of attendance for a number of years yet.
We should welcome the massive demand for tickets in the Premiership as it makes it hard for people to go and watch the true big clubs in English footy, and hopefully decide watching Southend is better than staying in.

Then they will bring their kids, who will, having never been to a premiership game, become Southend supporters.

For all this to happen we need to be performing at a reasonable level on the pitch and being a competitive League one side may in the long term be better than being a struggling Championship side.

Wer're not a big team yet but by christ we're working our way there quickly now, just look at the amount of SZ posters that have come about recently and it makes you realise the amount of support we are gaining.
Also, may i add that the club have done so well getting in the kids and i believe this has a massive impact.Even when i look around at away days i see tons of teenagers and that is encouraging.
Supporters of other clubs always look so much older in general!

I really do think, and this is judging by what my teenage son says that it IS becoming 'cool' to support Southend not West Ham if you live in essex. Slowly and surely Southend is becoming a more popular destination for kids around Brentwood, where i live, and probably other places as well. That can only be good in terms of generating new support. I think we along with Colchester starting to become the clubs of choice for Essex kids and not teams like Ipswich or norwich if they live in north essex and Teams like the spammers and other london teams if you live in south essex.
