Yes, yes....and recent social history and migration etc etc

But that's all logical, rational and sensible explanations. My hatred of Wet Sham is totally irational and long may it continue.
Ron, I was talking to a Milwall fan from Chelmsford in the office this afternoon who has an equal and irational or rational depending on where you stand hatred of all things claret and blue. I told her that it is quite a mystery why I say to fans of all the other London teams that it's quite in order for them to support the team their fathers supported except of course when it comes to the Maroon Baboons. Quite illogical but I think there was a book written once called "an irrational hatred of Luton Town FC" I think. Supporting a team is nothing about logic or reason. God I hate them.

PS MIke one day I got fed up being patronised by w%&k Ham fans saying when I told them I supported SUFC well someone has to or why don't you support a real team like w%&k Ham. Saying you support SUFC seemed to say to a lot of people but mostly w%&k Ham fans please feel free to take the pi$$.

Yes. It's really crap.

The stadium's quite nice though, even though they can't fill it any more!
My mate who is a Forest fan went to Portman road last season, he said that the away fans are all bundled in a corner of a stand, although it sounds bad he said that the acoustics were fantastic. He said that because of the low roof the amount of noise the away fans can make is deafening… looking forward to it.

Jávea is crawling with West Ham fans - albeit not very happy ones at the moment - but every one I have seen in the past couple of weeks have taken the time to congratulate me and the other Shrimpers in town about our promotion to the Championship. Together with Chelsea, Arsenal and the occasional Col Ewe fan here on the Costa Blanca, we've all agreed that it has been a thrilling season for the south of England with championships and promotions, national and international cup finals, etc. Maybe it's because we've got out of the stress-filled daily ritual of the UK that there is a lot more respect out here?

Come on Mike. Don't you remember them coming to our games in their disgusting shirts. No manners. No class. I'm only here cos the 'ammers aren't playing patronising b******s.

Yes. But they were SUPPORTING the Shrimpers, as they have done for years in the town. There's nothing wrong with that, is there?

I've no problems with West Ham fans supporting SUFC or coming to the Hall but I believe that wearing another English league club's shirt there is a tad disrespectful.

WOAH, Rick! So are you saying that, just because I have shown affinity towards West Ham, I have no loyalty of enthusiasm towards Southend United?! What utter b******s, mate. Sorry ...

So you'd much prefer that a 8-year-old stay away from Roots Hall than attend wearing his West Ham shirt, even through there might be a chance of being bitten by the bug at Southend United and becoming a regularl (like me)? I bet a fair proportion of the extra 5,000 or so who turned up last weekend for the Bristol City game were Hammers ...

it's called manners Mike. Leave the claret and blue rag at home and you're more than welcome at Roots Hall.

But for an 8-year-old, it's just going to a football match. They won't know about perceived rivalries, clashes between fans, verbal abuse, etc. You shouldn't need to have "clothing police" in the stands, digging out people for wearing the wrong shirt!

Last time I was at Roots Hall I saw kids wearing the shirts of not just West Ham, but also Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, even Newcastle United. But when Eastwood scored, EVERYONE rose in unison to cheer the goal. Would that not a great sight to you because it was for me. It showed me that the people had gone together just for 90 minutes or so to support the Shrimpers. And there can't be anything wrong with that ...

Maybe we should just agree to disagree? Otherwise we will just continue to go round in circles here Mike.

Let's just accept that there is a section of us who hate West Ham and a section of us who don't.

Those of us who do will continue to enjoy our childish, smug gloating............................and you can go and sit by the pool with your loser Hamster mates

Looks like we will definitely be within driving distance when we come over to Spain last week in September...take it your new season will have kicked off by then? May make it to a match.

Our season usually kicks off first weekend in September but this IS Spain so you never know until about 72 hours before the first game!

So if a kid turns up in a Barcelona shirt next season, he will be hounded out of the ground by those who appear to have an inferiority complex?

I am impressed, Rich. I think they've exceeded EVERYONE'S expectation and it's very pleasing to see the town getting behind the team again. But I wonder how many are closet West Ham fans?

I hate West Ham! Their cocky supporters who really play on their East London accents! I was going mad when Liverpool scored as if it was Southend!

Surely not.
So what's wrong with West Ham United? I'm a sympathiser so do you have a problem with that?
Oh have a day off

I find it offensive that anyone would wear colours other than Southend (And of course England is fine) at the Hall.

It is a matter of respect in my book. I dont expect everyone in the ground is a die hard or only supports Southend but i think they should have a bit more respect for those of us that do only support the blues and wear an alternative coat, shirt etc etc.
