Essex Cricket 2025

did well to get 11 points out of that game
If they’d batted in the first innings like they did today they would likely have won as Yorkshire would have been under all sorts of pressure in their second innings. Walter and Cox were big losses, as is Cook with the ball. The depth isn’t quite there yet.

Surrey are doing tickets for just £10 for our county championship game at the Oval later this month.Excellent value
I'll be there on Friday. But we look in a bit of trouble at the moment. The team is alright when full strength, but looks a paper thin squad. without Harmer doing well we're really lacking, no Cook, and no runs. worrying times

A horrid start to the season so far. Essex always do seem to turn it around but a bit worrying at the moment.

Was there last night. Something seems rotten this year. On paper not a bad team but they just look devoid of confidence. Ground was also half empty. They won't be flocking back soon if this continues either.

They look a poor T20 team on paper and are playing like it. At least Cox has returned to strengthen that middle order but I’m struggling to see what the strength of this team is? It’s not explosive power plays when they have Elgar opening; if Pepper fails the middle order doesn’t take games away; it’s not late order hitting; the bowlers aren’t going to blow anyone away with pace; they don’t swing it around corners; it’s not in the field; it’s not with inventive captaincy; they don’t have an overseas difference maker. Maybe it’s worn wickets if it brings Harmer (and Benkenstein and Critchley) more into the game?

I know they got to the final the other year (after grabbing the last qualifying spot) but I don’t think they’ve been a good T20 side since they had Cameron Delport opening the batting. They haven’t adequately replaced him as a T20 opener nor Ravi (who at 40 would still strengthen this side).

But as long as they are competitive in the Championship I can live with that.
