Essex 2014

We might as well rename ourselves Chelmsford and Colchester, such is the disregard for any other part of the county.

A couple of London fixtures to look out for, for those of you still boycotting Chelmsford until Championship cricket returns to the south of the county:

Sun 20th April Oval, CC Day 1 (day 2 clashes with Accrington)
Sat 17th May Lords, T20

There's also:

Fri 6th June Oval, T20

By the way, does anyone know the T20 format? Looking at Essex's fixtures, there are 14 T20 games but 9 teams in the group - are there 2 teams we only play once?

Quite. Away games will be the order of the day for me.

Also, I don't like the tacky new name for the T20 comp. Damn and blast.

Jesse Ryder confirmed as our new overseas player.

Surprising how quiet this thread has been. I guess two of the most active Essex CCC posters are either (a) no longer posting (blueblood) or (b) no longer with us (canveyshrimper)

A lot of people are disillusioned with the county because of the scandalous abolition of the Southend Festival.

That doesn't help of course. But I reckon we could have relied on H to post a few times reminding everyone of the club's ludicrous treatment of the south of the county!

I've had a small bet on Essex for promotion this season, more in hope than expectation. A return to the top table is long overdue.

Should be a decent signing.

I'm with YB about Essex. Also Greg Smith getting a game every week despite being a nothing cricketer does not help.

Given that it's day three we've not much chance of a positive result here, but getting Gloucs to 117/7 is encouraging.

Wickets falling left right and centre in the CC these last few days. Notts lost four wickets in eight balls in their first innings and three in five earlier today!

Good start to the Blast, Pettini with 95 off 54? Just how poor are Middlesex! Interesting to see they played two games on the day and lost both.

Not a great debut for Ryder but he needs some time to settle I guess.

Monty has ripped through Worcestershire today. Hopefully we will be chasing under 200 in the final innings, although given how few runs have been scored in the match so far, that may not be very easy!

Not sure I'm going to make any Essex games this year. Weather permitting, will head down to Merchant Taylor's School on Bank Holiday Monday for Middlesex v Sussex in the County Championship.
