enough is enough

IF the new stadium does go ahead our catchment area is certainly big enough to ensure high enough crowds in the Championship. Bearing in mind we had a 10,000+ average in the CCC at the Hall and that was with a side rooted to the bottom of the division. A new stadium brings a certain amount of new supporters on its own but with Championship football and the fact that the club should be more profitable with the other business add-ons should mean that more money will be available for the playing budget. This means better players which means probable better results and therefore more supporters. It's a cycle, and it's how clubs like Swansea, Hull etc have grown in recent seasons in terms of on-field success and fan-base.

In the current climate it's not going to be an immediate build but I have every faith in RM to see this project through. If he doesn't then the way football is going we'll just end up as a very small club struggling to survive - moving is our only option if we want to prevent being a permanent lower league also-ran.....that prospect doesn't thrill me, if you're happy with that then fair enough.

And with regards to Roots Hall we aren't allowed to develop it further even if we wanted to, hence our fight to re-locate for a number of years now.

Even if we were able to, I don't somehow think that it has ever been in Ron's mind...........and certainly not in his interests, to do so.
Quite honestly, the last few results have been a reality check for a number of people on here. Now, rather than dreaming of the impossible we can concentrate our thoughts on the two essentials for this season.
1) Steadying the boat in January and cementing our position in League
One.
2) Starting to build a settled side that will be able to compete for
honours next season

2) Starting to build a settled side that will be able to compete for

The problem is you cant do that when you rely so heavily on loan players.

Personally I think the abbreviated version is this:

Tilly got lucky with Eastwood
His judgement is not as good as some people think it is.

Compare these:
Eastwood v McDonald
Goater v Furlong
Sodje v Clarke
Bailey v Grant

The ones on the left who did well for us could easily have turned out like the ones on the right.

Revell 150K. No better than Harrold.
Grant no better than Moussa
Scannell no better than Black
Betsy - not good enough.
Walker not good enough.

These players are all on contracts and costing valuable resources.
Tilly has been desperately unlucky with injuries to Freedman and Barnard but on the whole we look like a mid table team at best.

Ron has already said Roots Hall has to go as the club cannot afford to stay there so thats not an issue worth discussing any more.

Agree on the whole with all of your above observations, apart from the comaprison between Harrold and Revs. imo Revs is far superior to Harrold, wins much more in the air and more importantly has the ability to direct his passes and flicks to a Blue shirt. Grant - not good enough either imo, Moussa is far superior in departments such as first touch, distribution and tackling.

Mid-table at best is a fair expectation this year, a little false hope was created with the success of Lee Sawyer, but where is the creative midfielder to replace Gower? There isn't one, which is one of the reasons we look great at times passing the ball around the pitch in the middle of the park, but our ability to pressurise and unlock opposing defences at this time is almost non-existant.

For me this January transfer window will be the most important of Tilly's Blues career, because if he get's it wrong, he could be out of a job before the end of the season, and I, along with the majority of Blues fans on here, would not wish that on any Southend manager, let alone Tilly. So I hope, even with a vastly depleted defence for Boxing Day, we can get a result against Northampton and a performance that get's us all going at MK on the 28th, to buy him some time to bring in the faces that we so badly need for the second half of the season. Hopefully then an upper mid table finish and a season that results in consolodation can be the springboard for more success in the next two to three seasons, whilst we await the new ground and the investment that will bring with the periphery income from the retail and hotel establishments.

Steveo, I just hope that as the windfall from the Chelsea game is totally unbudgeted for, and with the tie so early in Jan, that at least some of the revenue is given to Tilly for team investment. If not and we again scrape around with free transfers of untried players from reserve squads and loan players, then I feel there will be some raised eyebrows amongst the fanbase.

And with regards to Roots Hall we aren't allowed to redevelop it further even if we wanted to, hence our fight to re-locate for a number of years now.

Why would that be if we only built up and didn't expand out any further. The grounds had 30,000 in it before (Liverpool) so it can handle the traffic problem in the area, although if my memory serves me correctly it was a pretty chaotic experince.

now, i have sat back dring the last 7 games, careful not to be one of the voices of decent. however, after spending my friday evening listening to that, in my humble opinion it is time for a change.

i do not profess to have the answers but in my defence, i am not paid to make these kind of decisons.

i sit here in dread waiting for a stuttering post match press conferance where bad luck or the quaility of the half time oranges is blamed for a 7th game without a win. oh and 2 3 goal drubbings in the last couple of away games to boot.

these are tilsons players for better or worse. i am well aware of the tremendous feats this manager has bought to our little seaside club. all i read is how he took us from the brink to enjoy some of the finest sucess's in our history and for that of course i doff my cap (or in this case a very fetching trillby, i dressed up for tonights occasion)

perhaps steve is a victim of his own glories. but with the best will in the world, we are hading back down the pyramid and for those who disagree i suggest you smell the nescafe. a lot has been put on the return of the lad from chelsea but ask yourself this. why on earth would he want to come back? im sure he looks out for our results and who could blame him for thinking he could do better?

the back 4 is not good enough for this level (and thats soon to be depleated further) barnard isnt physically strong enough. yeah macca has had an operation and bless him for bringing himself back into contention but lets face it. he has no competition for his place.

as i said above. i dont have the answers. but this situation isnt good enough and i fail to see how we get out of it. yes the window opens in a couple of weeks but as per my point about sawyer, who wants to join a team in freefall?

i love the club and i hope upon hope tilly can turn it around. but maybe he has done all he can.

Bobby Greenberg

You listended on radio to Hartlepool game, but did you go to Leicester ?

Unless you witness for your own eyes how can you qualify to comment of "2 three goal drubbings".
